Stairs into kitchen

    I'm trying to sell a house I bought 16 years ago. We were sale agreed and survey came back with the stairs not meeting fire regulations. It comes into an open plan kitchen/dining area. It is 4m from cooker but 5m from back door. What could I do to fix this? If I flip the stairs around to come out front door I loose a room upstairs so would need to reconfigure the whole upstairs.
