Access to forums

I have only found out there is a rant thread and it is hidden for some reason. Can a mod explain clearly how a poster accesses this and the other hidden threads I don't know about?

What is the reason for this? I asked in trivial things that can annoy you thread but the mod there ignored me.

I'm putting serious rants in that thread because I can't see the secret forums/threads. That is ridiculous.

It practically died after the move to Vanilla though and the access request threads seem to be quiet too.

Where can you view the access requests thread? Like how do you know what they are if they are hidden? This should be explained.

I posted the link in my last post, it's a subforum of feedback.

There are some private groups that are invitation only but there's no information about them so you don’t know what they are unless you're invited to join.

They were also a lot less "hidden" back on the old platform. This is just yet another thing the move to Vanilla made worse.

soccer, R&R etc were all private access on VB as well. The only difference in VB & Vanilla is they have to be “groups” on vanilla. That’s why some people have access to them already but don’t realise they can access 😎

so they’re not anymore hidden or private than they ever were.

Ah, the forums in question were visible in the drop-downs on VB, you just couldn't access them - so they were somewhat more visible.

Don't understand anything that is being said. I just want to know why some threads are hidden. Don't know what vanilla is or VB. Just want to be able to post.

Why are they hidden? You say because of trolls. Why then are only some threads hidden? What's the criteria for them? It is confusing.

The criteria is listed in the access request threads.

The reasons I’m not 100% sure of every detail it was a long time ago when the access request thing came into effect for the forums you’re asking about. I’m not even sure I was a member then!

I understand the main reason was trolling was getting completely out of hand just given the forums subject attracting that sort of attention.

The current platform that runs the site is called Vanilla and unfortunately unlike the previous platform VB (VBulletin) forums can’t be locked to certain users and not others so the forums in question were made private groups a mod must invite you to.

That’s how access is granted now. It’s not intended to be a secret but I think you’re right some extra visibility would be good.

Some groups are available upon request - R & R, S & S etc. Private forums were always private and accessed via invite only.
