Every access to any government IT system is logged against the person who accessed it. Nothing is untracable.

Thats the best thing to do and it will help put your mind to rest. Its seems he should have complied with your request for ID though and for that he should get a ticking off, but its unlikely that the person you speak to will be of higher ranks so it will probably come to nothing unless you make a formal complaint.

The problem with stirring things up with the Garda is they can end up taking it out on you at some point in the future - and thats a battle you are unlikely to win.

Some prick about three years ago flashed blue lights behind me in Dublin one evening, another one of those fake Garda wanabee's. He pulls up beside me with my driver window down and his passenger window. He had really bad English and I do not even know what he was saying as I couldn't understand him and then he shoots off. Odd, what the hell do they get out of it anyway.

I was stopped by an unmarked car a number of years ago, around Lucan, dublin bound, turned out to be fake, I assume!

He said I had been speeding, but he had been tail-gaiting me to a dangerous degree for some time, hence I did speed up just where the limit changes from 120 -80kms.

He pulled me in, the lights flashing were white, not blue. He looked unkempt, and short of stature. I only opened my window down a little, showed me a badge, but I remember there was a building on it, not the intertwined serpents/snakes.. whatever the significance of that is! He proceeded to ask for me license, I didn't have it, but I was told to produce it at a Garda station which I duly did. I went to Tullamore GS and was interviewed by the Sergeant there, who didn't seem to have a clue what I was talking about. He said he would investigate.

I never heard another thing, so I def think it was some clown masquerading as a Garda.

why would you pull in for white lights? 🤦‍♂️

Ha, just googled it there, it's an intertwined G and S, it does look a bit creepy!

I didn't know at the time that they had to be blue, and in the shock of the moment one wouldn't be thinking quite straight. It is quite a shock when it happens. Tullamore never got back to me, but I'm ripping that I didn't think to get the reg.

idk I suppose they were a bit taken aback by it, worried what they did wrong and not looking to piss of a garda? As well as any offence they are suspected of committing I don’t think they felt like adding on failing to stop.

You asked me why I didn’t take down the reg number, in that situation with what I was going on and the questions I’d been asked I never even thought to check. I was more concerned with getting on my way because the whole thing felt like a garda out to make my day worse. I was spooked.

Like you can be as aware of the right and wrong things to do as much as the next guy but in the moment these things can slip your mind. I’m raging now i didn’t press for ID or take a reg down obviously but it wasn’t my primary concern at the time.

My point being if you’re here to help and offer advice that’s sound and I appreciate you for it but do you need to speak to people as if they’re stupid for not having the best response to a stressful situation?

I have been in a few situations like this, I always took the reg and it always paid off. I would try get a picture of the person as well if I thought they were pretending to be a Guard.

As I said I had no reason to suspect they were not a real garda. An ignorant one? Yeah. A fake one? Well I’m not so sure.

I still don’t think they were a pretend garda. Doesn’t make sense they had a garda notebook, we’re well able to search me on PULSE, how could it not be? Like I said though he refused to cite a reason for stopping me and refused to give any ID when I asked. Just replied “I don’t need it”.

from replies here anyway id say it’s either

    1. a garda with too much time on their hands and who likes to poke a reaction
    2. a detective who thought my car was one of interest/I was a potential person of interest & they wouldn’t give their ID or anything else because it might have given away their case? Idk how the detectives operate usually if that’s normal for them.

I did not see a firearm which detectives usually carry if I understand correctly but he may have left in his car or he was just a plain clothes garda in an unmarked.

His shirt was a designer brand so I suspect he’s not just a rank and file garda.

    similar story here.

" I think there has been an accident around the corner" 🤣

Anyway, thanks everyone for the insight. I knew it wasn’t normal questions and enquires to ask but I had never been stopped personally (but been a passenger at checkpoints etc before) so was just curious if this sounded normal.

maybe not relevant but he was an older lad too definitely in his 50’s so I wonder if the detective theory is the most likely.

ill ask the station garda when I drop down the licence and insurance during the week see what they can find out. I will almost definitely make a complaint about it I think. Just not sure if it’s a good idea and tbh it’s my word against his at the end of the day.

Fair enough it will prob show they accessed pulse profile but it’s not as easy to claim he said X or Y when I’ve no proof. As mentioned it may be a bad idea to make an enemy of them just to go have a whinge at a superior. 😂

If ask the sergeant rather then the guard, tbh.

    Hello Emerson Crooked Flick.

How would the Gards have details about your mental health issues on their Pulse system?

Have you ever been detained or arrested before?

If you haven't been, how could they know? Straight question?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,922 ✭✭✭✭suvigirl

Every incident that a Garda is involved with is recorded on pulse. If you have even handed in a lost wallet, your details are on pulse. Gardai are involved in lots of incidents, not necessarily all criminal.

As I said already I won’t directly divulge why but if you use your imagination you’ll answer your own question.

I once got a great laugh when they checked up on me on the walkie talky so I heard everything. It was about 15 years ago in Galway city. I got into an altercation with this larger than me foreigner on a bike. I was walking and someone called the Garda on me. They must not have been far away as they got there pretty quickly a bunch of them. They got me anyway and searched me found ID and called it in. And they have a massive file on me. Kinda funny hearing all the things.

Going off topic but on point they keep a record of everything. I had to change my phone number one time as they were ringing me up so often. I should change it again as they have my new number as they called me a few times on that number too.

Can you get information on your Pulse file via FoI?

Well then I can only assume that you have been involved in a scenario where you have been previously arrested and have shared this information with the Gards? I cannot really imagine another instance where this might occur?

It must be a really laser sharp and efficient system ( PULSE ), whereby in the space of you being randomly pulled over by a special Garda operative to the GARDA being able to convey to you that you suffered from mental health problems. Like super fast, don't you imagine?

    Thoughts?

From a random pull over to being told you have a disability, like that PULSE system seems soooooopa fast on the draw?

    What do you reckon Raíchu?

He is right though yes I was arrested and detained because I contacted a doctor that I felt.. things and then did not attend the appointment and left my phone off.

that was obviously very silly to do, I had no intention at all of hurting myself or anyone else but as you’d imagine the Gardai were called and they felt the best COA was arrest, detention & evaluation.

Now that I’ve divulged that personal information about myself for no reason can we stop asking why it’s there and just focus on whether it was appropriate, relevant or professional to mention it, thanks.

not a go at you either suv, just don’t see why so many people are so confused or interested by the reason but anyway.

Count Dracula - whatever you're trying to get at is not something for here. Do not post in this thread again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,922 ✭✭✭✭suvigirl

No one needs to know the reason, Gardai have lots of involvement with many things that are not criminal and yes they keep records of everything they are involved with.

it still doesn't give any member to bring up unrelated incidents with you on the side of the road, or anywhere for that matter.

Can that personal information be deleted ?
