Smart Dimmer Switch - Neutral Wire

I am looking to get a smart Dimmer switch but all the ones I have looked at require a neutral wire.

What is the reason for this and would one have a neutral wire as standard?

If I don't, what are my options?

The neutral is a point of reference - considered to be 0v, so if you don't have one in the back of the switch then you need a "no neutral" smart dimmer module.

And I'm now a ceiling rose convert, so I put my relays at the fitting instead of the switch. Different level of hassle but guaranteed live live and neutral. Big fan of the shelly dimmer 2, which I have in the rose in the kitchen, and need to move from the switch to the rose in the living rooom and en suite (have bypasses fitted at the rose for both)

It overridden by the switch. So a pain in the ass if you don’t live alone.

Are you replying to the Hue post? The shelly dimmer2 isn't overridden by the switch whether in the rose or the switch.

IF you do want to use a hue with regular switches, putting a shelly1 in the rose would let you have the hue permanently powered and you can use the switch as a trigger.

The rose has a neutral and a switched live. If the switch is off , where does the Shelly get its power from ?

Rotary dimmer, comes in wifi or zigbee. I put it into a gang dimmer plate.
