Just my own observation in relation to Beshoffs, which has a reputation as being a very good, and extremely well run, chipper: the fish portion sizes are tiny compared with what I got (north Wales) and observed (Rate My Takeaway channel on YouTube) in the UK.

Beshoffs and Burdocks (in particular) have been shite for years.

Living off their past reputations, instead of trying to maintain them. The portion sizes alone should exclude Beshoffs from any real conversation about the 'best' chippers in the city, and that's before we get to the prices. €32 almost, for two fish and chips is scandalous. Their chips are actually nice, but €4.50 for a batter sausage? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

This place is 5 mins away at the other end of Vernon avenue. They charge €6.20 for a batter sausage, chips AND a can of coke. They do great deals also……a 12" pizza, 3 onion rings, 4 tenders, bag of chips and a curry or garlic sauce for €14, which is less than the price of a 1 & 1 in Beshoffs. 1/4 pounder and chips and a can for €8 is decent value these days also.

A decent portion of fish and chips will usually feed Mrs Beer and me! I'd be very unimpressed if I was able to eat all a fish and chips portion myself!

I’m a huge fan of Beshoffs Seafood Delight Box - Fish Goujons, Scampi, Calamari and great chips. I wouldn’t like to share it though, we’d both be left hungry I think.

Feeding six people from our local chipper means we always go for batter sausage and chips option. Even that’s getting prohibitively expensive now unfortunately.

I gave up trying to get decent chipper chips in Sligo ages ago. Is it a common issue around the country where you buy a bag and end up throwing away anything from a quarter to half of them because the chips are inedible? They're either black or overcooked to the point there's no potato left in them. Can't justify paying €4+ for that quality.

Usually I'm in Carrick on Shannon once or twice a month and I always go to David's to satisfy my chipper craving. If anyone is ever passing through it's worth stopping in for some grub. Must be one of the best chippers in the country, though I obviously haven't visited enough chippers to say that with certainty...the kids meal of a burger, chips and 330ml can is only €5.50 and there's more than enough in the chip portion for an adult. I don't order that because I'm a tightarse, it's more because I wouldn't be able for a full chip given how generous the kids portion is. That said, the price is a nice bonus given how insane fast food prices have become..
