Changing mortgage rate

I recently applied to change my mortgage rate through your website and just received the email with instructions for the MFA.

The email says "Once we have applied the new rate to your account we will send a confirmation letter by post to your address."

So my question is do I need to get a solicitor involved in the change to the mortgage rate? And also our current rate is valid until Dec 2023 - will there be a penalty for switching rates while in 'contract'? I hope that makes sense ....
