Rabbits

Has anyone noticed the huge numbers of rabbits this year, or is it just this area? (north Waterford). Now the rabbits seem to be dying of myxomatosis ( https://www.woah.org/en/disease/myxomatosis/#:~:text=Myxomatosis%20is%20an%20important%20disease,severe%20disease%20with%20high%20mortality. ) - I think we had about 3 or 4 families of rabbits with a total of maybe 20 rabbits in the garden. We have recently seen 6 very sick, convulsing or blind, and two dead.

I am aware that myxomatosis is not an issue for any other animal life, and there is nothing I can do about it, but I am interested to know is this a nationwide thing this year?

Lots of rabbits around here (North Cork) this year too. Haven’t seen any sick yet though. Had a vixen with cubs too that has disappeared. Last time I saw the cubs out around I thought they didn’t look great. Not sure if something had happened to the vixen and they were hungry.

Buzzards have the rabbits wiped out round here! They can take the young so they eventually die of old age.

From maybe 15 to 20 rabbits in the garden we are down to 2, an adult and a young one, so far as we can tell.

Anyway to stop these destroying my lawn? Digging huge holes last 2 years now, getting very annoying.
