Replacement PSU

Hi all,

I did a self build from advice here back in 2020. The fan in the power supply is starting to make ticking noises, so I'm guessing it's on the way out. It would be an absolute disaster if it went in the next few days as this computer has a piece of software that I need.

The PSU is: PURE POWER 11 400W CM 80PLUS GOLD POWER SUP.

Anyone any thoughts on whether I should replace it with the same one, or is there a newer, better equivalent? I'm shocking when it comes to picking these types of things, I'd just go round in circles.

Any help much appreciated.

Edit: My motherboard is a Gigabyte Gaming X AMD B450 ATX DDR4-SDRAM Motherboard, and the Processor an AMD Ryzen 5 3400G 3.7GHz 4MB Desktop Processor Boxed.

3 years is not much. Check if still covered by warranty...

The fan bearings are probably worn out but as long as it's spinning it's fine. Just noisy.

It's a standard 120mm fan. Personally if I thought the fan needed replacing I would replace it rather than buy a new PSU.

Don't go inside a PSU unless you know what you're doing, it's potentially dangerous.

Your PSU has a 5-year manufacturer's warranty.

If you do want to replace it with a unit with longer warranty, you'd be looking at higher-end be quiet Pure Power 12, NZXT C-series, Seasonic Focus GX, Corsair RM, etc. They all have 10-year warranties but only start at 550W & upwards of EUR85.

Been on to BeQuiet and they're saying I have to return the PSU to them for inspection, which is a nightmare as I have to have this computer live. I've no choice but to buy a new one.

Can I replace a 400W PSU with a 550W without issue? Also, if I didn't care about a longer warranty, what PSU would you recommend I replace it with?

Where would I get a replacement fan for it? The warning about opening a PSU put me off.

If you don't know what you're doing, DON'T DO IT.

Capacitors inside PSUs can kill you.
