Does a storage only attic conversion need a certificate of compliance?

If one is not available, can they be obtained retrospectively? What is the cost and what would be required?

    Thanks

    Short answer is no.

Longer answer depends on why you're asking. If you're buying a house that has a conversion, you should get an engineer or surveyor to assess if the structural work is OK.

Thanks for the reply! The opposite. If I am selling can I retrospectively get a certificate of compliance?

That "short answer" is incorrect. All works need to comply with building regulations.

All works need to comply, so all should have a certificate of compliance. These can be retrospective, but as there maybe aspect hat can't be determined at this stage it is more likely that a professional will give an "opinion" on compliance, rather than certifying. The difference is largely academic, but its protect the professional from unknowns.

As it is a storage only attic. The applicable building regs are reduced. But be aware that how you are currently using it is also a factor, but simply the intention on paper.
