I have poked my head into that other site and, ignoring the liberal use of ethnic, racial, and gender based slurs for a moment, I have absolutely seen posts where users have fantasised about physically attacking certain boards users. I know I was one of them, and Emmett was another.

Incidentally I cant help but notice the irony of a small coterie of posters going Nancy Drew on users they think are bullshïtting about being wealthy or living in poverty, while those same slueths are dismissing others’ claims of being threatened with violence. I suppose the victims werent civil enough.

Voat was the one where they said violent, hateful stuff and tried to dox people (actually doing so for a small few) but this other place seems nothing like that.

That's not me following you around badgering you, it's just an example of how bad faith posting has become normalised, often by those who profess to not be inclined to such behaviour.

The notion that this site has slipped to the right is nonsense also.

There is an intolerance of differing opinions amongst a subset of posters on boards, a number of them have posted in this thread and all who have done so have been whinging about the site becoming a hotbed of right wing rhetoric which just isn't the case.

Echo chambers have become normalised online in recent years, in that same period of time we've seen the rise of the idea that boards is becoming a far right haven or "turning into stormfront" as was a popular refrain some years ago.

The majority of the people moderating the high traffic areas of the site fall all the left of the political spectrum and tend to not be backwards about expressing this.

There was a feedback thread about this topic a couple of months ago and the motivation was to ban anyone who didn't agree with the far left or left of centre posters who moaned in that thread en masse. It was an absolute dumpster fire of a thread that boiled down to little more than a very vocal group not wanting anything but complete agreement with their world view or they (the OP) would be closing their account in protest.

Toys thrown out of the pram big time, even with site staff bending over backwards to please those people they still weren't satisfied by people being allowed to not agree with them.

Forums in general are yesterday's medium, boards is an unusual case inasmuch as it serves a country (to as great an extent as it can) as opposed to an interest group so it will rattle on longer than some but eventually it will succumb to the reality of the modern internet.

How long it sticks around is dictated by its users. If people can't understand that differing views are a necessity in this type of medium it won't be around for long.

The first screenshot referenced a poster who hasn't posted in this thread. I don't know who the other 2 were aimed at, but I can honestly say it wouldn't bother me. I have had personal abuse hurled at me and I wasn't bothered enough to report it.

They were not credible threats, and certainly not a reason to change a signature. Now, if I thought a threat was credible I would obviously report it to the guards.

I was another user at one point for a very long time, decided boards was slowly preventing people saying anything, and in the very niche that I am interested in I found it more and more difficult. So I stopped posting as much, and I don't reply to many things any more, I follow one or two threads, and yes Broadcasting and Media are my thing so Tubs is great for boards for me :)

Generally speaking; 'If there is no will, there is no way.' They could easily upgrade functionality on this site, but don't. It is just simple code for frontend and back end....an easy upgrade.

I use to be here a lot in the past. All these boards are working too hard on censorship for any Ideas that goes against anything the establishment think, and sensor anyone that is Other-thinking.....under the banner of 'Not politically correct.' and ''think what we think or be quiet' and therefore people do not come here as much as its becoming too monotone. I like to hear voices I do not agree with but its not encouraged so I went elsewhere. Sign of the times I suppose.
