To be fair there's every chance of dropping points v Villa & West Ham, even at home, both are teams that are capable of decent football & can beat anyone on any given day, in fact you could say that of about a dozen teams, bt Villa & West ham would be towards the upper end of that list based on this seasons performances.

When is the Eddie Howe hype going to end?

Below a brutal Man Utd in the league now.

They'll improve, yes. And they wouldn't have lost 4 in 5 with them there. 100%.

But the points stands. The football is unsustainable. Pep's team is high-octane, but they often chill a bit on the ball for spells. Ange just seems to want to keep going and going and going. West Ham looked on the ropes for ages, but as the game wore on, was anyone surprised that West Ham gained control?

Massive game now in the CL for him.

I actually think the league form is more important for him. Top 4 needs to be maintained. The CL was in some ways a free hit, and dropping in the Europa wouldn't be a disaster either. Finishing bottom of the group obviously wouldn't be ideal.

Falling down the league would be an absolute no no.

To be fair to Spurs VDVeen and Maddisson are already 2 key players for them. Sure look who was deputising for VDVeen and Romero. Emerson and bloody Ben Davies!!!

It'll need a few transfer windows to replace the rubbish they have on the bench.

Still delighted though as they actually thought they were in a title race after 10 games and the fans were also believing it.

Yeah, largely agree. They’ll ultimately finish around 6th IMO, which is probably right for where they are right now.

I have no time for him and the antics that he instills in his team.

Newcastle finishing top 4 has to be EH's top priority. Silverware via a cup would be a bonus, and to that end dropping down to the Europa league may not be a bad thing. They'd surely go deep there, but with the risk of it affecting league form & that top 4 spot it may be dropped like a hot potato pretty quickly.

Funnily enough can see them missing out on the top 4 this year anyway as they don't look quite up to the levels of the current top 4 (Arsenal, Liverpool, Villa & City) unless they go out and spend big in January of course.

Getting champions league in his first full season was the worst thing that could have happened for howe, now it's the expectation for him and it's gonna be hard deliver now Liverpool are back to normal programming

How much money do different clubs actually have to spend in January?

Man Utd and Arsenal spent big in the Summer but both brought in players on loan for FFP reasons (or at least that was how the Raya / Amrabat deals were framed) does that mean they can't afford to spend much in January unless they shift some players out.

Surely Chelsea have to stop spending at some point too, right? Villa's owners are wealthy and additions could help them in their top 4 push but are they also under FFP constraints or is their first big net spend upon returning to the Prem now outside the period that gets reviewed?

You would have to guess after selling Kane and seeing how the injuries have affected their squad Spurs are going to invest and should have no issues FFP wise if they do.

Everton have had talk of further sanctions for their books this year so you would have to expect that means that FFP will again see them limited in what they can do transfer wise.

united will need ot sell players to free up FFP space I believe. So they won't sign anyone unless they sell someone.

A few players that are probably available for sale - Varane, Casemiro, Sancho. Would sell Martial if they got an offer, but no club would make an offer for him.

I think they need to sign a striker, and possibly a winger, in january and they will struggle, massively, if they don't get another striker.

I think the loss of Romero and, in particular, Van De Ven has hit Tottenham very hard indeed. The style they play requires central defenders who are fast and quick on the turn. Udogie and Ben Davies are neither of those. They will need reinforcing in the January window.

    Romero played the last game

not entirely true, the owners can supplement FFP to the tune of 90m every 3 years.

so they are fine for FFP if the owners want to put cash in.

Current owners won't. No idea if ineos will be installed in time, or if they'll think January will have the targets available. I dont think they'd sanction any short term signing.

Absolutely. Toffees would be into the top half of the league now, despite the bad start, but for the deduction

Liverpool up to their usual cheating. Ref bottled it.

That is the problem with VAR. VVD had probably even less contact than Will Hughes. But was the Hughes tackle a clear and obvious error? Not sure.

99% of the time that's called a foul on Endo in play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,093 ✭✭✭Xander10

this confuses me. How far can you go back in the build up to award a free kick that wasn't given

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,303 ✭✭✭✭klose

Clearly wasn't. The referee saw it initially and didn't think it warranted anything. Then it took an age and multiple replays. So subjective at best. I'd agree a foul but that clear and obvious bar was very low in this case

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,974 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

If you think it was wrong to give the free out to Liverpool I think it's fair enough to assume the ref got the right decision eventually. Your hatred of Liverpool is only rivaled by Sligeach hatred of United. It's infantile at this stage.

He thought it wasn't initially, watched a replay and deemed it a foul, so it is a clear and obvious error.

Why it took so many replays i don't know, Hughes barged into the back of endo, clear as day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,428 ✭✭✭stesaurus

I'm fine with it being a foul, it was. The inconsistency and application of their own rules is my issue. A definition of clear and obvious should only need 2/3 replays at most. Not a 5 minute review of slowmo, realtime and multiple angles.

I suppose, but only seems to be flagged when it's one of the top teams.
