Hi

I am flying to Portugal next week, for taxi's last year, I used Uber and Freenow

I believe Freenow is not used anymore in Portugal

Can anyone suggest any other apps for taxis?

Used bolt two weeks ago in carveiro. An amazing service. Got a taxi from Faro to carveiro which cost €108. On the way back with Bolt it was €48.

No wonder the local taxis have plenty of time to talk to each other in the town squares!

Uber worked fine for us. Nice village, Quarteria.

Uber is the one most commonly used and has the TDVE type taxis, ie without meters and roof flights. Freenow is still available -!: can provide taxis with meters/roof lights and the hackney type “rides”. I’m here (in Vilamoura) for 3 months or more per year. Often at height of tourist season the surge price of Uber is far beyond metred taxi prices and Freenow is substantially cheaper. This is generally only at height of night time. Best is to have both apps available to you.

hard to believe that there are literally no public pitches/parks/green areas for a kick around

The place to kick around is on the walk between Vilamoura and Quarteira at Parque das Dunas, near the fish market in Quarteira. There are public pitches for beach football etc. The place you have marked if I see it correctly is on an incline.

Not sure what you mean by an incline. It’s just a flat Astro type pitch right beside a basketball court.

Mustn’t be where I was thinking of down there. Is that between buildings. I walk my dog there everyday but have not seen that pitch.

I am here now in Villamoura. When I try to use Freenow, it just says ‘service unavailable’

i remember getting a popup or mail months ago saying free now was pulling out of Portugal. Maybe only for this part or Portugal

Baz and Minnies will always have the GAA on (Baz is from Wexford) and it's pretty family friendly. Just gets a general, relaxed holiday crowd.

In fairness I have only been using Uber here so far as Freenow was only useful at height of summer. I can see that it’s unavailable. Apart from my recent airport trip (130kmh in a 60kmh on a sweeping bend) I have not had any issues with Uber. A lot are attracted down here to operate Ubers during summer and they are generally the difficult ones. You can usually tell as they are ones who have the instructions balding in English rather than Portuguese or silent.
