I found this article which resonated with me, https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20230612-amritsar-the-indian-city-where-no-one-goes-hungry. Its about Sikhs in India.

I had personal experience of the generosity of a Sikh when our tatty Ford Anglia broke down on a roundabout in Mombasa, Kenya in about 1972. A Sikh man in a large and expensive looking car came to our rescue, took me - very pregnant and with a toddler - to sit in his house with his womenfolk - then took my husband and towed our car to somewhere to get it fixed. No fuss, just practical, pleasant help to two young Europeans in trouble. It made a huge impression on me.

He would have been of an age to remember Indian Partition and the effects of the British leaving India, and could not have known when he came to our rescue what nationality we were, but it made no difference, he helped us.
