Toilet with decent flush

I have a toilet that is about 12 years old. It only fully clears the bowl about 30% of the time - sometimes, it takes 3 or 4 flushes. It is not a case of too much paper or anything like that. I think the cistern is just too small.

Can any suggest a good toilet that will clear the bowl every time?

I have received a quote for one that will "give an excellent flush" for 790 (installed), but that seems excessive.

To somewhat rule out fault in sewer pipework, next couple of times when flushing, throw a bucket of water into the bowl whilst flushing.

Please follow site and charter rules. "Resistance is futile"

What type of toilet is getting supplied?

I don’t think OP is referring to a slow draining bowl, more a low volume periodic flush. Sounds like the diaphragm on thr syphon is perforated/torn. Replacing syphon and loading for high volume flush could well sort problem for small money. Incidentally, that quote of €800 is off the scale too.

First thing to do is to take the lid off the cistern and check that it's filling as far as it can. There's usually a line on the back wall of the cistern indicating where the maximum level is. If it's not filling right up to that line you'll need to adjust it. How to do that will depend on what kind of siphon you have.

We had a new toilet installed in our en-suite recently, one of the new low volume ones, and out of the box, the siphon was set up to only fill about half way, but a quick adjustment and everything was OK.

Another thing to look out for is if it's one of the button flushes with two options for small and big flushes, that the button is the right way round. Ours wasn't :)

It could be a commercial model they were quoted - often these models have a higher volume flush and less restricted outlet, and are less prone to clogging.

any ‘normal’ household would be fine with a regular bowl. €800 is simply taking the piss. Same as the thief who quoted €500 to change a mains tank ballcock in another thread.

Just check if the current cistern is a) filling completey and b) emptying completely first. Without checking that first any further advice is pure conjecture. It'll take all of 5 minutes.
