My kid wants one for her birthday and they are bloody expensive. Found a code online ( some sort of refer a friend code) but of course they don’t work in Ireland.

so I got onto chat and they gave me a code which I’m guessing in generic.

    You’re welcome

You wouldn't believe how long I looked for a code before getting 2 recently. Never thought to contact them.

they look like decent water bottles, but wouldn't have any interest in the scent pods

can they be used without the pods?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,234 ✭✭✭✭Dial Hard

The whole gimmick *is* the scent pod. Otherwise it's a bog-standard water bottle you could buy for a fiver in Decathlon. Save your money and do that.

absolutely. its a gimmick. one of my kids has one and its the biggest waste of money. get a cheaper bottle somewhere else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 174 ✭✭corkgirl17

Legend, thanks a million. My daughter has been begging and begging for one. Complete and utter waste of money but everyone in her class has one so peer pressure prevails!!

Will get them used to vaping which they'll be doing in a few years I suppose.

These will go the way of fidget spinners. Our kids begged for these stupid bottles too but we said no and now its forgotten about. There will be something else "everyone in my class has" come September.

Dreading the mobile phone one , at least ours are too young for that, but it wont be long.

    Lol

yes I agree, gimmick and waste of money.

grand as a birthday pressie from granny though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,118 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

We have rule. Confirmation before phone. And even then limited apps, eldest almost 14 and still not allowed Snapchat for eg.

girl in work today tells me that her daughter begged for one of these bottles so she just bought her one. But it has resulted in the kid drinking lots more water which I guess is a good thing. Same kid has a mobile with Snapchat since she was 8! 🤯

Pure and utter gimmick, fair play to these guys for getting people to pay €40 plus for these bottles. Kids begged and got them as birthday presents, there still using them but it's a pure fad. Bottles are prone to leaking as well so it's not as if they are a top class bottle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 556 ✭✭✭Kerry25x

Why are they a gimmick? Do they work as advertised?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,219 ✭✭✭The_Honeybadger

Daughter begged me for one of these after they came out and we caved in. She drank a lot more water for a while but the novelty is well worn off now. They are a pure gimmick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,219 ✭✭✭The_Honeybadger

They do work in that you do get the scent / taste from the pods but the novelty wears off very fast and you are then left with a €60 water bottle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,253 ✭✭✭witchgirl26

I got one for myself as I need to drink more water & while I like water, I prefer flavour. Have to say, while some of the flavours aren't great (got a mix bag to try), others are lovely & mild. I've also drank more using it that I was before so it definitely does work in that sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 556 ✭✭✭Kerry25x

Thanks, I think I'll actually give it a go because I do drink quite a bit of flavoured water and I find it hard to drink plain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,118 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

just because something works as advertised doesn't mean it is not a gimmick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,844 ✭✭✭Glebee

Gimmick is probably the wrong word, a fad like fidgit spinners is more like it. Serious marketing on Insta/tic toc and Facebook earlier in the year.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 9,980 ✭✭✭mik_da_man

Fair play to you, but too late for me unfortunately.

I did exactly the same a few months ago but got nowhere, just ended up paying full whack. In fairness my Daughter is drinking a lot more water now so it's not a bad thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,253 ✭✭✭witchgirl26

I don't know where you bought yours but mine didn't cost €60!

It has a kid drinking far more water then they normally would. I've seen 60euro spent on a lot worse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,809 ✭✭✭Bawnmore

Agree with all of the above - seems a complete waste of money (she bought herself with savings), but she's drinking more water than ever before so hurray for small victories.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,219 ✭✭✭The_Honeybadger

I’d say it was around the time they were launched she has it a good while now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,253 ✭✭✭witchgirl26

You literally picked the most expensive bottle you could get.

Or you could go with this one (which is the one I have and the one I bought my niece) which is €40 including the pods (which are worth €8 for the 3 pack) so bottle is really only €32 so almost half of what you were saying.

You literally picked the most expensive bottle you could get.

Yes. And they're €60. You said you didn't know where they were bought for €60. Now you do.

No need to get so defensive when someone points you in the right direction.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,253 ✭✭✭witchgirl26

You're original point was that "then you're left with a €60 bottle" I was trying to point out that there were cheaper options on the site so if you think that might happen, maybe go for a cheaper one. That you don't have to be left with a bottle costing that as there are cheaper ones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 792 ✭✭✭Yeah Right

Look, it wasn't MY original point, I've no skin in the game at all.

Someone said they'd paid 60 quid and you said "don't know where you bought yours but mine didn't cost €60!!". You were then provided with a link to one that DOES cost €60, so now you do know where they possibly bought theirs. That's all there was to it.

Now you're getting your knickers in a twist for some reason. Yes, it's the most expensive bottle. And yes, it comes with a number of capsules that means the bottle itself wasn't the full €60. But the fact remains, some people paid that much and it's now gathering dust on their shelf. It doesn't matter if yours was half that, theirs wasn't.

Thanks very much Seve, finally some code that works and saved at least some of the overpriced feeling.. I'd never go for it, but it's fine as a birthday gift begged for ;o)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,901 ✭✭✭✭ted1

    Don’t the lids leaked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,844 ✭✭✭Glebee

Yes, unless you hold them upright mine leak constantly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,599 ✭✭✭newmember2

Yay!...Chinese tat for my Birthday Daddy puleeeezzz...lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,844 ✭✭✭Glebee

Worst water containers I've ever seen, fair play to the marketing teams on social media on this one .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,672 ✭✭✭ForestFire

Well, Fad or not I saved 13euro on the order today so thanks to the OP.

Will report back on our experience, but as others said if the kids drink more water then it's a win either way.

I also understand that as this works on sent, that it may work great for some, and not at all for others??

This was honestly my first thought when I heard about them. Not sure if I've become too cynical, or have rightly realised that everything is driven by capitalist scumbags :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 catc2k

@witchgirl26 your air up bottle actually arrived? Ordered from that site a few weeks ago but thought I had been scammed because of dodgy email and bank reference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,672 ✭✭✭ForestFire

Mine has arrived, still assessing, I have had flu so not able to really check myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 239 ✭✭deadimmortal

Got one of these for Christmas, thought it was the worst gimmick ever. I Just use the bottle now and as a normal water bottle and just add cordial to it for flavour. It never leaks on me

Anyone have an updated code, Santa needs to bring two, know they're a complete gimmick but they're on the list

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,685 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Daughter still uses hers daily, after getting it last year.

    Never had a leak.

Yes, it's an expensive gimmick for what is essentially a lump of plastic, but which of us can say they nevwr asked their parents to buy them overpriced tat when they were young?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭feelings

^^ The bottle will definitely leak unless kept upright. We've three in the house and even will the top closed tight they leak if not upright.

An absolute gimmick but they worked for us in that the kids are drinking a hell of lot more water.

The code is no longer working. Is there a new coupon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 kathune

    +1 for Air up code.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,457 ✭✭✭SharkMX

A guy I work with was in the canteen the other day talking about these things. He said he got all his kids one to get them to drink more water. Another guy said to just get them an app then showed us his app that tells him when to drink water. He said to me how do I know when to drink water. I said most normal people I know drink when they are thirsty and dont drink when they are not thirsty. He went off on one then about how most people dont drink enough water. I glazed over at that point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,253 ✭✭✭witchgirl26

Problem with an app for kids is that they're not allowed in school whereas a bottle with water is.

And it's true, most people don't drink enough water at all so I think anything that gets people drinking more, isn't a bad thing.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 9,980 ✭✭✭mik_da_man

For what it's worth I got one for my daughter, it definitely helped her drink more water, and I ended up getting one for myself.

It's definitely a bit of a gimmick, but without a doubt I'm drinking more water because of it. The "taste" is very mild, but enough to make it a bit interesting and much better for you than adding some dilute concentrate to water.

Lads, please keep it to bargain alerts on these drink bottles.

We don't need to know your opinion on drinking water etc.

    Warnings will follow.
