Cheap flights to U.S. - too good to be true?

I'm thinking of flying to Las Vegas in October and checking out return flights from Dublin. Skyscanner have a range of flights at what seem to me to be incredibly low prices. Example: United Airlines, 14 hours flight with one connection at New York. €464 !!! This seems too good to be true. Can these sites be trusted? Am I missing something? Anything I should be looking out for ? Have only flown twice before to the U.S., both times with Aer Lingus to New York.

October is off peak and aviation is heavily subsided by tax payers in most countries. It probably only includes a small cabin bag so adding check in luggage might be expensive so look up prices for that if needed.

I've not flown united but someone here may be able to tell you how they compare to Aer Lingus in terms of comfort for transatlantic.

Thanks for that. Will be travelling light so that's not an issue and comfort isn't a deal breaker for me.

I've paid e330 return from Dublin to Vegas years back. I'm going in June and its e560 return. 460 in October definitely possible... its easiest to just bring hand luggage its only for a few nights...

I flew to LA last year for €400. I'd book directly on the airlines website though and avoid any third party sites.

For Vegas look at adding accommodation to those flights, discounts are crazy compared to booking hotel and flights directly.

book directly with the airline and not some shonky online operation who doesn't have access to live pricing.

with air canada direct I was able to find flights for €474, although that did include a morning arrival into Toronto, and then an evening departure.

For some thatd be bad but sure you could see toronto for the day and then scoot onto vegas in the evening. Could be seen as a positive

With some of the shady independent websites, they leave out some taxes or charges and then when you go to pay (and have all the details in) they tell you of it. Definitely go with the airlines but use skyscanner to get an idea of where a deal may be.

I flew to Vegas via LAX one way at Easter just gone and it cost €250 with Aer Lingus and included checked in luggage, booked directly with Aer Lingus.

We stayed in the Jockey Club Suites which is beside the Cosmopolitan and the Bellagio, we booked it through Booking.com and it didn't charge resort fees, one of the few hotels that didn't charge this fee. The location is very central and we had views of the Bellagio, the dancing fountains, Paris Paris and a lot of the other hotels. I can recommend The Henry in the Cosmopolitan for breakfast though it's advisable to book it in advance as it's very popular.

Huge difference between a 'travel agent' and an online 'consolidator'.

Funnily enough, just this week US-based media commentators were laughing their heads of at the notion of cheap flights encouraging tourists to places like New York, LA, or San Francisco. They really thought it was the funniest thing ever.

To them, its the cities' authorities becoming desperate to entice tourists to excrement covered, zombie-filled, post apocalyptic wastelands, where countless residents have been fleeing to start over in other States.

Recession Traveller on Facebook has some great US deals, flights and 4 nights accommodation for in or around €500 and they are normally through the airlines direct or Expedia.

Personally, for me Skyscanner is for research only....I'd never book with one of their OTAs.

How! Very jealous. 2.5k for me and happy. Midtown though.

There's plenty of places I go on holidays to or day trips where I'd have no intention of living. People leaving NY for cheaper places to live doesn't affect tourists.
