Just using for casual browsing. 13" screen is fine for me. 1. If I buy a refurbished version how long does it generally last? 2. Is it better to buy new or refurbished?

They will both last the same as they are the same. If an Apple product is available to buy refurbished, go for it and save money!

Manufacture refurbished with a new battery would be fine from a reputable site. Anything involving refurbished tech my main concern would be about the battery health
