Warning light on Nissan Qashqai

So a warning light has come on in a 09 Nissan Qashqai. I googled this for a mate and it seems the light is in respect of the drivers side airbag. Neither of us know very much about cars but he asked if I could find out if there is any easy way of putting this light off. He has it booked into a local garage but thats about 3 weeks away so in the meantime its just annoying him.

could put a piece of black tape over it for now I suppose?

That might do him. I suppose it depends too on the layout of the dashboard display. He wouldnt want to be covering anything else up.

The only way to remove the light is to fix the problem. The airbags will be non functional in a crash while the light is on.

Check does the horn and the cruise control buttons work? The clock spring is a common failure on them

Yeah, his mechanic has explained to him about the air bag being non functional in the event of an accident. Where about is the cruise control button on these models? Another stupid question - what is the clock spring?

As I said above both of us are fairly clueless when it comes to cars.

Cruise control buttons are on the steering wheel.

The clock spring is what allows the wheel to turn but still maintain and electrical connection for the horn, buttons etc

Try switching the ignition on and off but not starting the engine three times at five second intervals. Then start the engine.

Its more than likely the clock spring, changed hers recently, loads of videos on line with how to do it. Bought one from autodoc.ie make sure u get the right one. 09 car is prob the 2 wire one cant remember. Autodoc is prob 5 day delivery for about 50 -60 euro all in but prob about 100 euro maybe from local car parts dealer. And dont go spinnin it around when ye buy it before ye fit it!!!!! Cos itll be as good as the one thats currently in yer car, no good!!!

Autodoc always takes 2 weeks to deliver when I order from them.
