Army Surplus Stores

Lads I'll ask here, because I don't know where else to ask.

I've just baught some stuff from a good army surplus store in the UK, and of course I was hit with customs which kinda knocks the good out of it.

The reason I ended up buying from a UK store, was simply because I couldn't find a decent place here, which sells proper army surplus. Stuff like boots, coats, backpacks. Actual proper stuff that's used, but plenty of life in them. Most of what I see here is tactical stuff, or army style stuff that don't appeal to me at all.

So, any you lads know of any GOOD surplus stores here, with decent amount of stuff to choose from, or do I have to shop in the UK or elsewhere, if I want proper stuff?

The model shop on James Street Dublin 8, on the right just before the entrance to James Hospital on the left, always has a good stock of ex-army items. Owner Paul also exhibits at shows here and in UK.

The IMVG show at the Naas Racecourse in June will have many stalls selling genuine military surplus gear.

As I read the post...I instantly thought of Jocks in Dundalk and how I really really wanted a bullet belt but with one with the tips intact 😀 Also how their combats smelt of mothballs, the trend for wearing dog tags...ahhh the days of combats, boots, sleeve prints and back prints not to mention fake hand grenades.

No use to yourself op but I guess the demise of Jocks (by all accounts he was a bit of a Kernt) is indicative of your situation, even based in the UK I struggled to find good stuff, I mean its often the sort of stuff you want to see and try on because the sizes can be so random!

Yea I've looked at most of these already. Piss poor for the most part, imo. That EU store is much better than any of those Irish stores. I will have a proper look on there later, thanks.

How about a night vision scope that is the size of a cement mixer and displays the post-apocalyptic green blur that we all love? This Hungarian Gen 1 device attaches to the side rail of eastern bloc guns, such as AKs and Dragunov. The Polish version of this is NSP-3 and the Soviet one 1PN34 (NSPU), but the Soviet scope is a bit more advanced. This thing is bloody huge and ugly as fuçk. In other words, magnificent.

Trouble is;Real surplus stores are literally becoming a thing of the past too. Simply because REAL surplus military equipment is being either recycled,re purposed or destroyed by the countries and what we are being sold in many cases is repro stuff.

Very good read, and o so true. That's what I'm seeing with the Irish stores. Very poor compared to years ago.

OP, you do not want second hand boots. And you do not want standard issue boots either. For whatever you want to do, buy a decent pair and break them in yourself.
