I read the comments on the Journal a fair bit. I don’t contribute though as I do not do FB or Twitter.

However every topic I open this evening there are no comments even though at the top of each page it says there are c# comments.

I know the 42 went behind a firewall but I’m just wondering if all topics comments are now behind a firewall?

They're pushing a narrative. The comments most likely didn't agree with said narrative

They deleted the comments to give the illusion that people agree with whatever they're peddling.

It's quite sad really.

Getting people to pay to make and read user comments would seem like an awful business model so I doubt it. It might be a site bug.

I think they just turn comments off for articles where the comments could be fairly contentious. They could probably employ moderators but decide "nah, fark that". If that's the case, can kinda see where they would be coming from.

Even if they had moderators I can see them turning off a lot of comments. It doesn't make sense to have them switched on for some topics. They know the comments are going to be putrid drivel.

I think most of the boring and permanently outraged men who used to comment on the Journal have moved to Twitter.
