Business growing flustrated with AIB authenticator app

We use AIB for our business and do quite a few debit card payments every day. Both my staff and I are growing more and more frustrated with the authenticator app not working. We book a lot of couriers and when we try to put a payment through, often authentication doesn't appear on my phone for a long time or never at all.

Is there a work around for this? Can it be turned off or is there a more reliable text authentication available with AIB? If not, can anyone recommend any banks that have a better system or app?

Before anyone mentions it, I do have push notifications turned on. It's quite simply the app just not working when we need it to work. I'm sitting here 15 mins on my second attempt to put a transaction through and nothing has come through on my phone.

I brought my phone to my local aib branch, setting up authentication for business accounts is different to personal accounts. Took the person in the bank about 20 minutes to sort it out. Aib Internet banking isnt a patch on ulsterbank unfortunately

Yeah we are all set up correctly. It just doesn't work. So annoying.

I moved my business banking from BOI to Revolut for exactly the same reason. Their business banking product is very strong.

They phoned me a few weeks ago actually. It might be something to look into.

Are you sure the issue isn't with the phone configuration / data connection?

Whaf kind of phone is it? Android phones have a configuration where apps are put to sleep when not in use which will suppress notifications. This can be disabled on a per app basis.

Yes, I've checked all of this Eunuch. The only workaround I've found is being in the authenticator app itself when waiting for a notification.

In that case, Android is indeed putting the app to sleep.

Okay. I'll look into that. I must check if my personal account is operating better on my iphone. The business is done through an android phone like you said.

That's unlikely to be the case if the OP's business does 'quite a few debit card payments every day'.

But it's easy to check if it has happened. Go into Settings/Apps and scroll to the app in question, it will be flagged 'Deep sleeping' if Android has put it to sleep.

On a Pixel or Samsung, Settings -> Apps -> AIB app -> App Battery Usage (Pixel) or Battery (Samsung) -> Unrestricted.

Other flavours of Android may be different, especially on a Xiaomi.

Make sure you have a relatively recent version of Android.

Force stop the app and clear its cache. Launch the app before attempting the payment online. It will work. It is not a problem with the app generally.

purple bank staff here - follow this guy’s steps ^^ and don’t sit in the app to wait for the notification, this won’t work, the app has to be closed and you have to wait for the notification. If you sit in the app to wait, it won’t actively refresh to receive for the auth request
