How to do street photography in a regular or ugly town?

I'm tired of "street photography" tutorials or courses that only give you generic tips (Don't be afraid, you can use your cellphone, take your portfolio with you, find interesting comp, etc.) then they show examples and (ironically): photos where 60% of the beauty is the location because the city has great architecture, lights, high rails, edifices, super aesthetic places everywhere, clean skies (no wires)... 30% is having a Sony A7RII with a Sigma Art 28-70 F2.8 lens with incredibly fast and exact auto focus, and 10% is genuine skill because they only did random images with cool settings, which isn't much of what I'm looking for.

    Thank You.
