A serious proportion of people disadvantaged are men.

Most people in prison are men.

Most people who are homeless are men.

Most victims of violent crimes are men.

Most people who commit suicide are men.

Most people who die in wars are men.

I’m sick of people taking a tiny substrate of highly successful men and using them and using that as the entire structure of western society. In reality, there is absolutely nothing that about that which is vaguely appropriate.

As Jordan Peterson has highlighted, the tiny number of people who are extraordinarily successful ( and wealthy) are overwhelmingly male but the people who languish in the most dire circumstances ( at least in Western countries) are also overwhelmingly male

Men are more likely to rank in the extremes of anything

More likely to have genius IQs, also more likely to have IQs in the mentally disabled range. Women by comparison are more likely to have average intelligence, less geniuses but also less very very dim women.

Men are more likely to take risks, and more likely to suffer as a result too.

Men are both the biggest winners and losers - the big issue is that people who like to divide us along the lines of sex like to focus on the top performing men, whilst ignoring those at the bottom, the homeless, the addicts, criminals, the disabled and unemployed, those injured from their work, those who do lifetimes of back breaking labour.

Any honest discussion about sexism needs to take into account the higher rate of absolute failure and depravation among men, as well as the oft reported on rich billionaires.

I reckon 100% of men have suffered symptoms of poor mental health, there isn't a human on this planet who hasn't. The problem is the idea of "manliness" and our inability to talk about these things because society expects a man to be a man, and the idea of what is a man is complete bollocks.

It's pretty common for these threads to take a similar form. Complain that anyone highlights an issue women face or an inequality that affects women is wrong because 'look at all these issue's that also affect men'. But that's as far as the thinking goes. It never goes into the actual issues men face or how to address them. It only seeks to invalidate the issues that affect women and then end the conversation.

The only post that vaguely suggested helping men was ridiculed. If I understood it correctly it suggested taxing wealth to pay for services to help men with a range of issues (the post wasn't explicit). And it was ridiculed without even asking what they meant.

The men who try to shut the conversations down don't care about men's issues, they only want to shut down the discussion about anyone else's issues. If they cared about mens issues, the would talk about how to address them. But, they never do.

I'm not sure what the thread title actually means, or who the source is. It just seems a jumping off point for superficial listing of issues which affect men. Given men face all these issues, what we do about it?

It’s inevitable that the majority of wealth will end up with men. Men don’t get pregnant and then have to nurture their children like women do. Men have far less hands-on responsibility in child rearing. They go out and work instead. Hence the result is their productivity creates wealth.

However, society has correctly given women ownership rights to men’s wealth. Ask Jeff Bezos!

You're mistaking wealth for cash. I take your word for it that women spend more cash. I presume that's why more adverts are aimed at women.

I also presume the majority of wealth is owned by men. Given the stats you hear about the top 100 billionaires having more wealth than half of the world combined (or whatever the stats are now). Most of them are men so I'd be surprises of it's not true. Some countries don't allow women to inherit wealth. Even in Ireland, businesses like farms are often passed to the eldest son regardless of if the eldest sibling is a man or woman.

I think the farm inheritance is a little more fairer than you imply; the vast majority of the time it is a son that continues to work as the farmer, hence the inheritance.

as long as it was accumulated and attained legally. If it wasn’t, that’s a different story.

strict laws in this country about gender pay gaps etc…..you can’t discriminate because of money.

there is nothing illegal or wrong however, about ‘wealth’ gaps between genders, ethnicities or people of varying ages, heights….

people need to remember , life isn’t equal, nor should it be….bang on about equality all you like… but because cohort A have more than cohort B…. Nothing inherently unfair about it. ‘Equality’ nowadays is people not having it as good but wanting to get bumped up so they do.
