Trying to turn off hot water to fix leaking kitchen mixer tap. No valves under sink so think I need to do it in the hot press. Tried turning the red wheel at the bottom of the tank here but hot water kept flowing. I let it run for 10 mins, it turned cold but kept flowing. Any suggestions welcome, thanks.

It comes off the top of the tank:

    Look along this pipe:

The red valve you used looks like part of the heating system. You should have another pipe going into bottom of cylinder. Find that and look for a valve on it.

the cold feed for the cylinder should be directly opposite {bottom of cylinder} the two pipes in the picture.

There should be a valve on it. If not get into the attic there maybe valves at the tank. If not draining the tank is your only option.

The red gate valve at the bottom nearest the 3/4 cold water inlet pipe to the cylinder.

Gate valves are notorious for sticking, bad design should not be fitted based on their long history of failure but shoddy plumbers knew no better and many used them. Drain down and fit a good quality ball lever valve instead for the future (WRAS approved, full bore about €5-10).

Thanks all for the advice here. Found the cold feed at the opposite side of the tank as suggested here and turned it off and fixed the leaking tap.
