When I tried to look at the match today, I switched on BBC 1 Northern Ireland, but there was no GAA match on. Where is the GAA match is it online ?

It was discussed on this thread, Page 18. If you Free to Air TV from a satellite dish, it is available. If you have Virgin Media TV coming in by fibre/cable, it is not a available. I think.

And I suggest that you complain to Virgin Media in you are a customer and are paying them €1100 per year for them to play silly buggers with their channels. If people do not complain then they will continue to suit themselves.

Virgin's hands are tied on this issue as are Sky's. BBC NI don't have the broadcast rights for ROI therefore their coverage must be blocked on thise platforms.

Those of us who use freeview or freesat can watch the games as these services overspill borders and there is nothing that can be done to prevent it.

Nonsense, do you work for their customer support? Virgin are as free to broadcast BBC 2 NI as they already broadcast BBC 1 NI, they just couldn't be ar5ed.

This is nothing whatsover to do with sport broadcasting rights. These games are not shown in Ireland other than by the BBC.

If you go to Gaago in Ireland, these games are not there.

The issue is Virgin Media, a British company, preferring the English version of the BBC, and that alone.

It really doesn’t in this case, the BBC have decided to close down the SD version of BBC Two NI on satellite and Virgin substituted the Network version instead. Sky continue to carry BBC Two NI HD but SD is network. Virgin and it’s predecessors (UPC, NTL, Cablelink, RTE Relays) carried BBC NI for fifty years plus including GAA coverage.

BTW Virgin Media is not a British company. They license the Virgin brand from Richard Branson but apart from paying him a nice cheque to use his brand they have nothing to do with him. They are ultimately American owned and controlled by US billionaire John C Malone. The sister U.K. operation has been hived off into a JV with O2 and is no longer directly connected to the Irish one.

The issue is not the SD, most people receive HD. But Virgin Media show exactly the same version on SD and HD on two different channels, which they do not do with BBC 1 NI.

BBC NI have announced their Allianz League coverage for 2024. Showing 8 games, 6 football and 2 hurling. All to be shown via the iPlayer.

There is an issue here. Last year the games on the BBC were not live on the Irish GAAGo at all, even if you had a season pass. Yet many people cannot receive the broadcast, for instance last summer Virgin Media were playing silly buggers by showing some English BBC2 instead of BBC2NI, but you cannot receive a stream either.
