Hi on Saturday I was parked in public car park and got ticket for parking warden for not paying tax.

I actually paid for tax on previous Friday evening. Can I contest it the ticket says not displaying valid tax

You didn’t have a tax disc displayed .

    Thats an offence.

You could try appealing but I doubt the appeal would be upheld .

Do they not give you a month or was that finished with and how long was tax out?

That is irrelevant to the fine that the OP got though. The OP got a fine for not having a valid motor tax disc displayed, not for not having motor tax.

OP, there are two fines for motor tax:

    1. not having valid current motor tax.

    2. not displaying a valid current motor tax disc.

You got fined for no 2. Even though you paid your motor tax it is still on offence to not have the motor tax disc displayed on your vehicle when parked in a public place. You should go ahead and appeal given you had it paid, I've heard of lots of these fines being rescinded once you can prove the motor tax was actually paid at the time of the offence.

I've an added problem in that I renewed on line and would have expected disc to be delivered within 4 days. 19 days later now and no disc. Have emailed Motor Tax Office to let them know. Should I display email on dash if parking in public place or is it not worth the paper?

There should be a link on your local county council website to contest a parking ticket. You’d be in hard luck if you didn’t win your appeal, they are usually delt with with common sense.

Yes, you should appeal and it will be cancelled. You don't say which council but the appropriate contact details should be on the ticket. They will ask for proof but I assume you have proof of payment for a date before you got the ticket.

If it was a Garda ticket the cancellation info is here.

"Cancellation Request Categories: Cancellation requests fall into two categories. Category A covers mainly procedural issues. Category B relate to cancellations based on exceptional circumstances.

    Category A........................

Cancellation requests falling within this category include –In relation to an FCN for non-display of motor tax or insurance disc, motor tax had been taken out or applied for, or in the case of the non display of an insurance disc motor insurance was in place, at the time of the alleged offence."

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
