Can anyone answer me how a ponyclub seems to have different rules applied to them regarding airfifles and air pistols regarding authorisation ?

In the SI it states that to obtain a pistol licence...no differance regarding an air or LR ...that a person must be a member of a 4A range...yet a pony club has no range or range authorisation but AGS grant the pony clubs licences / authorisations for pistols and licences..for 11 and 12 & 13 year olds to use...yet one must be 14 to obtain a training cert....am I missing something in the Firearms Act ??

What did the pony club do on you? 😁

I was nosey and went looking for info and the Commissioner's Guidelines 2018 states "Section 2(4)( d) of the 1925 Act may be utilised by a superintendent to authorise the likes of pony club and pentathlon events."

Funny enough when I went to look at the legislation on irishstatutebook.ie, I don't see a Section 2(4) in the Firearms Act, 1925.

I know what a range authorisation is...but a pony club is not an authorised range...as in they move location, and yes I know about fairground air rifles....what I dont understand is how soneone can bring home a pistol that they dont have a licence for because a pony club says its ok 🤔

Then you don't mix in the right circles or your brown envelope is not big enough. Money talks.

This has always puzzled me too. There are(may still be) exemptions for school air rifle ranges. Do any still exist?
