Temp armour connection in the garden

This I'm be a bit confusing so if you need more info ask, I'm literally in the styx in the country and 1 of my neighbours has an outdoor farm its a large field 3 odd miles from his main farm and has had somekind of disagreement with the other neighbour another farmer where they had some agreement over sharing a pump house and water, but that's over. He has asked if I could if I could run a connection from my house for the cattle while he gets a well bored and a esb connection.

So the question can you run armour in the air via 2 poles maybe 50 meters in length?

There is a small old goats path is between where my house is and the boundary of his field, but there are 20 or so old fully grown leyland trees that I would prefer not risking to dig a trench for a cable that will probably only be down a year or so

I think that it's unadvisable to do it this way for a number of reasons. There was a thread on this in the past which pointed out the issues, but I can't find it now.

Maybe somebody else will know for sure.

Was there also a concern of wiring traversing a public path or road and the liabilities around that?

As for damage to leylandi trees, some would not pass much concern for leylandi as they tend to be a robust species.

But yes, a pipe would be a safer bet.

I did offer to run a water feed out to him which would have been easier but my pump and pressure vessel is set up for a domestic setting maybe a few hundred liters of water a day vs what he needs would be closer to a few thousand. He has offered to buy the apporiate equipment needed that he would be buying anyway for his own set up, its just I don't feel comfortable housing several thousand worth of equipment I don't own. Genuinely I feel very sorry for him as from what I understand of the situation he's the one in the right and the other lad has him over a barrel

Personally, I think it's feasible to get power 50 meters out a field as long as the land is privately owned and you have the agreement of the landowners. I think that the issue I have is around the technicalities of this being done on two poles. I say no to that part as the mechanical loading of an armored cable and wind-loading on the poles and attachments will be excessive. Increase the pole-count and investigate what electrical isolation would be needed to facilitate this so that it's not a liability to you or your neighbor.

Also look at a written contract which has a well defined termination clause and date within it and also stipulates that the farmer is liable for repair costs and making good on any damage caused due to the removal of equipment on your end. Otherwise without a date the work required could get pushed out again and again...

You would also be well advised to have signage on any approaches to the wire indicating that there are lines overhead.

A generator and storage tank might be a solution for him - relatively low cost.

The original plan was for john (not real name) to get an electricity supply asap and for him to bore his own well as his access to water was cut off following the breaking down of his relationship with the other farmer Jack (also not real name). So I was going to run a swa to his field as my home happens to be between the 2 fields when he got his well bored until he got his own esb connection, but following advice here and with further conversation with John, I've decommissioned my pump and pressure vessel and am using a larger pump and pressure vessel to pump water to my house and to his field, while he gets a pump house of his own built and gets an esb connection. He's hopefully getting his well bored late next month if everything goes well but that's still only half the battle.
