Advice on some tower speakers

    hey guys,

looking for some advice. I’m considering moving from bookshelf fronts to tower/frontstanders.

my overall setup is below. My current Pioneer Elite SP-EBS73-LR have Atmos built in and ideally I’d be looking for Atmos in the new towers too.

    some qs.

    1. do you have many options available for some towers with Atmos?
    2. would there be enough of a discernible difference in making the change from my bookshelves to towers to justify the cost? Most seem huge and the wife approval is a cost too 😉
    3. would my Denon PMA600 be powerful enough to drive it all?

    thanks in advance

    Eoin

    Hi Keoin18.

Thanks for coming back to us.

There will be a noticeable difference when going from Bookshelf to Floor Standing speaker.

There are a few options with the built in Atmos speakers.

Focal have their 826-D these are priced at 1599€ and stock is super low on these.

Klipsch do the R605fa - These would be special order for us and priced at 1699€

    Both sets are large unfortunately.

The PMA600 would drive these but they would deserve a lot more to be honest.

    Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks for the quick response Kenny!

ah I do like the Klipsch ones, much nicer form. What’s the lead time on them?

Would they be much different from the Focal ones, or just aesthetic?

regarding the pma600 and driving them (obviously the rest of the speakers going through the Avr6700),

what kind experience would it be? Also what would be a better pre amp to drive them in your opinion? Just thinking if I had to come back at a later point to replace the preamp would it be a problem ?

with the Klipsch, I presume they wouldn’t be replacing my SVS SB1000 pro? Having them all together would be worth taking up the space in the room? (Again the wife approval!)

    thanks!

    Hey Keoin18.

Personally I feel the Klipsch would be superior to the Focals. I've heard some of the other Klipsch speakers in action and they are fantastic. The design of the drivers and tweeters give a more refined detailed sound but still pack a punch.

I will need to check in with our supplier to get the ETA on them but if in tock it is usually 7-10 days to get them to the store then a few more to have them delivered onwards.

The PMA600 may lack a little oomph for the Klipsch but will still drive them. There would be no issue in upgrading the PM600 in the future if you felt you needed to.

I would still keep the SVS in operation to pick up the lower frequencies the Klipsch can not reach.

So if I got the Klipsch ones now, with thr PMA600 for awhile, I presume the rest of my setup should work well together once calibrated?

what pre amp would you suggest if I was to upgrade?

    Hey Keoin18.

Yeah the rest of your setup will be just grand :)

It does mean you can upgrade your centre and rears down the line if you want to.

For the pre amp you could check out the Emotiva Basx A2 which is priced at 629€

Looks interesting. Guessing this A2 is suggested due to the over 3x watts per channel over the denon one?

so currently my centre is being driven by the 6700 AVR. I presume the emotiva A3 would be a better option for my current and potential future centres? Would it be worth the extra few € for the future proofing?

Hmm, actually looking at my 6700, if I’m reading the manual correctly my centre potentially is being driven with the below :

    Center:
    140 W (8 Ω/ohms, 20 Hz – 20 kHz with 0.05 % T.H.D.)
    175 W (6 Ω/ohms, 1 kHz with 0.7 % T.H.D.)

getting the A3 would prob be redundant in this case?

    Hi Keoin18.

I would keep the 6700 running the centre channel as the 6700 is a really good receiver.

You could use the A3 but as you say the 6700 mostly like does a better job.

I recommend the A2 over the PMA600 as the A2 is designed as a power amp and for the purpose of what you are intending to use it for.

The PMA600 is a stereo amp that just so happens can do what you need it to do.

    Nice one Kenny.

Any Boardies deals if I pick up them all now? Klipsch R605FA and the Emotiva Basx A2?

    Hi Eoin.

Let me check with our supplier on the R605FA to see their availability and their cost price.

Both these items are special order so there usually isn't the same margin we have to play with if we order in bulk.

Leave it with me and I'll go and do some pencil sharpening and revert back ASAP.

    Hey Eoin.

The Klipsch are in a stock with our supplier.

The best I could offer both items for would be 2238 Euro delivered.

    Let me know your thoughts.
