    In today's Indo there's an article relating to the 50th anniversary of the Death of John Charles McQuaid, a fairly malign figure in the foundation of the Irish state. The article is framed loosely around a new portrait of JC, and appears on the Indo article to be an almost typical sycophantic 19th century fawning representation of an angelic Bishop, on a misty background with what appears to be a Church on the right, and with only the hint of modernity from an intruding industrial chimney stack on the left.

    That's all the casual browser without an Indo sub will see, or read. but read the full article and you become aware that the full portrait is an excoriation of McQuaid's legacy, even if the article is slightly more syphatetic. Searching the web produces this;

    Here we see McQuaid standing on all the fruits of his censorship submissions, which were many, and Noel Brownes 'Mother and Child' bill, which he defeated, and dealt with by means of the Magdelan laundries and Mother and Baby homes flanking his portrait. There should be a replica of this in every church.
