Hi all,

Does anyone have the details of Bidens visit next week?

We were told roads would be closed around Dublin airport next week, trying to find out when and what his follow on itinerary is.

That's it heading East at 3-4000 ft. Not sure where it went after that.

A presidential visit would probably require a few loads of one of these… god knows how many SUV’s, the Beast (or a version of it), and would they fit a Marine 1 sized chopper in a C17?

He's in Belfast the first day/night and then based in Dublin for the rest of the visit so I imagine AF1 will be positioning to Dublin at some stage.

Any heavy lift choppers this time? Obama had chinooks or something huge like that fly directly over me. Was petrified like a Vietnamese rebel by the sheer noise and wub wub wub as it flew over. More of that please.

In Cardiff tonight, then onto Belfast supposedly... they usually do recon flights on the run up to the visit so you'll see them in the south over the next few days.

I merged 2 threads together.

So lets keep all POTUS related chat here.

Current timeline is:

Land into Belfast on April 11th.

Travel to Dublin on the 12th

leave Dublin on the 14th.

Plans in place for him to visit both Louth and Mayo in those 2 days.

My assumption is Louth by road while enroute south, then Chinooks from Dublin to Knock on the 13th.

Back to Dublin that evening with some formal occasion, then departure from Dublin airport on the 14th

Im happy to be corrected once info is PUBLIC.

Good point. I should have recalled that. He travels in one of the white top chopper, under callsign "Marine 1".

(HMX-1 is the relevant squadron)

Am I wrong in thinking that Clinton used a Chinook when visting the border back in 1995?

Or were they just escorting the white top?

(I remember hearing the chinooks going overhead back then. Caused a bit of a stir at the time. But they were clearly not UK choppers)

no idea of the load spec... there has been at least 6 to 8 C-17's individually into Dublin (Airport and Bal inclusive) and Aldergrove...

so could be 4 cars... 2 cars + other cargo... 1 car plus other cargo...

The C-17 can carry 10 Humvees at a time, so more then enough space for 4 armoured limos (don't know if weight would be a limiting factor).

A C-17 did deliver the 2 x presidential helicopters though (VH-3's).

I recall there's about 10 individual specialist vehicles in the motorcade that have to be flown in with the rest being the Gardaí and maybe a few chauffer minibuses.

A C17 can fit about 10 SUV's inside.

Sad no C5s have been in this time, they’re massive, normally they have carried some of the heavier gear like the Beast, which weighs more than two fully loaded and armoured frontline Humvees IIRC.

Essentially yes, they do so by blocking off any parking areas and moving people along who are anywhere around the airport perimeter fence or roads. Some roads will be closed from Monday morning till he has gone.

Tuesday, April 11th

Mr Biden is expected to arrive in Northern Ireland on Tuesday evening.

Wednesday, April 12th

Mr Biden is due to carry out only one engagement in Northern Ireland at Ulster University (UU) before departing for Dublin on Wednesday afternoon.

US service service agents have been spotted scoping out King John’s Castle, also known as Carlingford Castle, the 12th-century national monument in the village, ahead of the visit.

The walkabouts in Carlingford and Dundalk are being planned for Wednesday evening, according to sources.

The US president will arrive in Dublin later, and there will be a State dinner in Dublin Castle on Wednesday night.

Thursday, April 13th

Mr Biden will pay a formal visit to Áras an Uachtaráin and Farmleigh, where he is due to meet Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, on Thursday.

The US president is also scheduled to make an address to the Oireachtas that afternoon. The Dáil and Seanad are being recalled from their Easter break for the occasion.
