Is it possible to transfer saved programs to a USB drive or elsewhere before the box is disabled?

I can access mine (Zgemma) via WiFi network and transfer videos to a computer.

I think it is also possible to transfer to USB but haven't tried it.

OP my understanding is that the only way to do what you want is to hook an external recording device (DVD-R or the like) and output to that and record as you go along. May be a slow and tedious process.

I was able to do this, as noted using an external DVD recorder\player. I had to play the entire programme on the TV, and setup the hard drive to record what was on screen. Pausing to cut out ads... slow and tedious process alright.
