Samsung phones

Looking at buying a phone in the next day or two, I was thinking of going for a Samsung phone from an Eir store. I will probably go for a pre pay phone. The pre pay ones Eir have on the website are a Samsung Galaxy AO4s, a Samsung Galaxy A14 and a Samsung Galaxy A14 5G Which out of these is the best phone ?

I was looking at all the phone shops websites and I found more Samsung phones. I have narrowed it down to one of following three. The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G, The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G or the Samsung A34 5G Which would be the best ?

The best I mean for a bit of gaming. I would be playing games like Call of Duty Mobile, PUBG, Fortnite and so on... Also the best for watching videos. Is it true you can only record 1080 at 30fps with the Samsung phones I mentioned above ?

If you buy a phone from the eir shop it’ll be locked to Eir. Just be aware of that, same thing if you buy from three, it’ll be locked from three. So for example if you’re on Vodafone buy the phone from vodafone.

I was thinking about that. Vodafone have the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G for 219.99 the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G for 379.99 with free Galaxy Buds 2 and the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G for 459.99 with free Galaxy Buds 2 on pre pay. What do you mean the phone would be locked ?

Hi, sorry for the late response. If you buy a phone from eir, you can only use an eir sim card in it. Same with Vodafone and Three.

So say you’re on Three, you’d want to buy a phone from Three so it will accept your SIM.

This is not necessarily the case any longer.

I bought a Samsung Galaxy A22 5G, A52 5G and S21 from Three and none of them were locked to Three. I have also bought a OnePlus and Xiaomi phones from Three and neither were locked either.

I just bought a Galaxy S23 Plus from Vodafone and its not locked to Vodafone

I think dual sim phones are harder to network lock or they are not bothering to lock most of them anymore.

Plus there are services online that you can buy the unlock codes quite cheaply too if needed.

Slightly different issue with Samsung. When last updated my A52 , version 15.0.42, introduced a floating menu, which does its very best to deny the user easy use of the phone. Seems that no matter which icon you press, out pops this floating monstrosity. Any idea on how to remove it, or to disable it? Thanks.

A very basic question from a naive user. I recently started using a Galaxy A4. Annoyingly I can only wake it up by using the start button on the side. Is there a setting I can use to wake it up by tapping the screen?

Under "Settings" go to "Advanced Features", then to "Motions & Gestures", and there should be a toggle there to switch on "Double-Tap to Check Screen".

Samsung Galaxy A14 5G is a good, large phone, nice for watching videos and browsing. Somewhat sluggish performance is acceptable for the price. But its camera is abysmal, I think they have made it bad on purpose, to add an incentive to buy more expensive phones. We have two A14s phones in the family, both have problems with intermittently losing focus, which is most annoying when taking videos.
