What is the story with the overplaying of Dermot Kennedy on radio. If I hear him one more time I'll go nuts.

One of the biggest names to come out of Ireland in recent years.

Radio friendly artist + stringent Irish music quotas = lots of Dermot Kennedy on the radio.

Dont see how his auntie has anything to do with it (as a previous poster suggested) 😂😂 Mary ringing up all the music directors getting on the case … unlikely!

Not only overplayed, but also vanilla now. Every Irish (& British) solo artist seems to sing the same song these days. Husky voice with a guitar saying I should have done better x 10000

Dermot Kennedy is ideal for Irish radio, not only is his style of music the "soft Mainstream Adult Contemporary music" that Today FM etc has always played to death, he also ticks the box for the Irish music quota

No sign of him on Sunshine today for about 4 hours. Maybe a lot more, but I did not check. Also can be avoided by listening to speech radio. Not much Irish stuff either, Niall Horan, Westlife, Boyzone, Van Morisson and Gilbert O'Sullivan. The last two could be counted as non Irish probably.

Have you tried The DJ Bambi Show on mixcloud.com? He plays a lot of great Irish artists you'll never hear on mainstream daytime radio.

Yes, he is definitely overplayed. I just switch off whenever he comes on. I can't stand the singing.

If you were listening to the 2 Dublin stations 98FM and FM104 in the early 90s, you'd be complaining about simply red, phil collins and crowded house being played to death.

certain artists get played very often for a number of years, that's commercial radio for you !!

Irish begrudgery alive and well, in a few months you'll move onto Cian Ducrot.

Not overt fan, but hes got a few catchy songs. I agree that some of his songs are like funeral dirge, but hes got a market and he's irish. What's wrong with him getting a decent amount of airtime?

He's mediocre at best, would be far better to give some up and coming Irish artists some of his airtime if you want to bring the national angle into it.

I couldn’t care less about the national angle personally. One of the reasons I’ve stopped listening completely to Today fm is their playlist (their DJS too) and Dermot Kennedy is right up there as one of the reasons I’ve totally stopped. Awful

I wouldn’t say it’s Irish begrudgery for me, I don’t like Lewis Capaldi for the same reason. More like shouting than singing.
