How fast can you get a credit card?

Bit of a funny one here folks, where the universe has decided to make my life interesting :D

I've had an ulster bank credit card for years with no issues, balance wiped every month.

I've been holding off replacing the credit card as we were applying for a mortgage and were advised that an additional credit agreement (i.e. a new credit card) would complicated matters and didn't want to impact that in any way so I've only been able to apply for one last week with my current bank, application is still pending.

I do however need to vacate my current property by Friday and didn't realise that the van hire place needs a credit card to hire one out.

I spoke to my bank this morning, the application hasn't finished being reviewed and will likely take another 5 working days to arrive regardless.

My ulster bank card was deactivated last week as the bank entered the market.

I REALLY don't want to ask someone else to go into debt on their card on my behalf.

Is there anywhere I can go to apply in person, in a branch etc where I could get a card in 24/48 hours?

Appreciate any help that folks can give!

You should be able to set up a Revolut/N26 account or similar very quickly , less than an hour.

That would give you a credit card number that you could give over the phone etc.

You'd have to credit the account for whatever the amount you are looking to charge to it though.

It would probably still be a week at least for a physical card to arrive though.

Could you rent from GoVan if you're near one? They can take debit cards

You could have a Revolut Credit Card in half an hour, if you have tax documents handy.

Thanks for the rapid responses folks!

@Quin_Dub @Doodah7 I have a revolut account already, is there a sperate option specifically for credit cards? I'd basically need a payday loan if I don't get a credit balance though as this month has cleaned me out already paying for house purchase services and storage for furniture since we don't have keys etc yet.

@[Deleted User] Good shout on goVan! First two places I looked up for van rental required credit cards so I just assumed it was a blanket requirement, I shall investigate this now! Thanks!

Ah GoVan uses Citreon Berlingos, they wouldn't be big enough for what I'm looking for, but thanks all the same :)

They have Transit vans, might be called something else but I've rented them a good few times.

    I think it's called GoCargo. I think it's Transit's and Trafic's they use.

Europcar do not require a creditcard last I used them.

Also most will accept a debit card but will retain €500 for the duration then 3-5 days to return.

Vanrentals.ie were another but it has been a while since I hired a van.

Enterprise also don't require credit cards. I don't have a credit card and have rented a van from them twice in the last few months.

When you do want a new card it shouldn't take too long but it's still a manual process. Recently went through BOI and took less than a month. Once you've the docs ready it goes smooth enough on their portal. 1-2 weeks Max for approval then they'll post the card soon afterwards. I tried for a revolut credit card a while back but I'm on a waiting list for some reason.

Good suggestions here for company's that take debit cards. If you rent at the airport, generally debit cards don't work. However from a local garage/agent/branch they can accept debit card with deposits. GoCar may well be the most convenient option.

Thanks for all the help folks and sorry I didn't get back to ye before now, busy few days moving house.

Went with vanrentals.ie in the end who took a credit card with the deposit as they were very close to the place we were moving too.

I really appreciate all the input!

Hi Guys, Assuming you apply online and receive instant approval, some issuers like American Express can provide you with access to your credit card number immediately, but others will not. However, another option is to ask if your card can be shipped via expedited mail.
