I notice that on the web I can just get a live stream of RTE1/RTE2 but on my android TV box I can't. I noticed it is an option on apple tv though. Any other boxes that allow for a live stream? Need a way of getting live tv in an apartment without paying and crappy saorview signal.

I have tried this for the same reason and found that on android tv or firestick if you use an android tv compatible browser you can use the rte website to watch it. I tried countless browser's Inc chrome but rte website kept saying update browser to watch. The only one I found which worked was one called "tvbro browser" it isn't really that bad. The virgin media app and tg4 apps for Android tv have a live stream section on them.

Apple TV as you say works. There’s no official RTE Player app for Fire.

The pre roll adverts already annoy me to pieces and I’m only using it as my main source of RTE for less than a week. Why they can’t insert these ads in the ordinary commercial breaks I’m not sure.

  • Can't you sideload the APK on a firestick? I have it on my Chromecast with Google TV, just installed it from the Play Store.

Edit: not sure if there's a live stream on it.

RTE player is working perfectly for me using a Firestick. It's a bit of a journey to get the correct version loaded, but it's 100% reliable.

The tvbro browser has an option to turn off adds on it also which makes it handy.

That's a useless piece of information, why didn't you tell ppl how you were able to put it on your Firestick?

I have been trying recently without success, I have found a couple of sites and videos but the RTEplayer version was out of date and just gave a blank screen.

Have Eir for Internet and Eir TV,subscribe to Apple TV through Eir.

A nice while ago I was a Sky customer for years.Annoyingly on Eir TV the last while you cannot record on likes of BBC1 BBC2.

From memory you could record from likes of BBC1 on a Sky deal.

Got a phone call from Sky today….they are obviously trying hard to win back customers. Was at work so could only talk to salesman for minute…..jist of deal was 12 month contract for €5 a month and if you don’t cancel in month 11 it then goes to €41 per month.

Just wondering if I went for that €5 deal could I use that Sky box in a separate room to my main TV which works through Apple box for Eir TV.

    Thanks for any replies.

    Can you rephrase that?

I can't see why you can't use the sky box on a different TV? Am I missing something.

You will have Apple TV device (with Eir TV) on one TV and then the Sky box in other room on other TV.

BTW, was it Sky Stream they were offering you? As far as I know, the new Sky Stream does not have record feature but more a playback option. And with BBC channels it is very limited. Check it out before you jump in.

Thanks for the heads up about Sky Stream.

Yes that’s exactly what I meant regarding having the Sky on a different TV in another room.

I think I might go for it anyway as at only €5 a month for a year you can’t really go wrong!

    Will cancel it then after 11 months as I ain’t paying €41 a month!🙂

Get yourself a 70 euro dell PC and a wireless mouse and keyboard. Can't go wrong

That is exactly it. None of the “new generation” platforms like Sky Stream and eir TV allow recording BBC. Sky Stream has limited catch up of certain BBC shows.

If recording BBC is important to you, Sky Q and Freesat are your main options.

I split off the last few posts that were really a separate thread and had nothing to do with RTE Player.

So i spent a few hours yesterday and I got freesat set up for him and the apps he uses such as discovery plus.

The problem is no aerial so i showed him how to use rte player but it is a small icon on the LG TV is it possabile to make it bigger?

I don't think you can make the icons larger but you can change location, so put the RTEplayer first.

Not sure if I'm too late on this but LG have a feature which I believe is common to all models called quick access.

So you can't make the logos bigger but you can for example have RTE player kick in with a long press of "1". Quick access can be edited with a long press of the zero button.
