Not much else they can do. No one will do anything about the AP.

As I said, they can put in a transfer request.

How long will that take, and how do you know where you will be transferred to will be better or worse. There's been quite a few threads in these forums of CS people being transferred and it's been a disaster for them.

Caviardreams pretty much summed it up. There's risk attached to everyone. Again, from my experience most people will stay and bitch about their situation. A large part of me thinks they just want to have something to bitch about tbh.

have never heard of an AP having regular internal staff meetings during the lunchtime band. I know if they did in my particular Government Department they would soon be told its not happening. Yes we have had meetings scheduled at 12pm that ran until 1.30 or 2 with external bodies but we know these can run through lunch and are allowed take extra time later for those. It does seem the AP here in my opinion should not have these meetings during 12.30 to 2.30pm.

That suggests you don't believe a transfer request is a reasonable solution either.

If you don't want people to complain. Then don't go out of your way to cause conflict. If you want to dismiss any legitimate complaint as bitching and drag out unnecessary meetings. Don't complain when engagement and feedback evaporates. The building could be on fire and no one will tell you.

I think I would be wary of sticking your neck too far on this one. No one come up with anything that can influence or moderate an AP if they are within the letter of the rules. If a few staff want to throw themselves against a cliff it would unwise to join them. I suspect it will eventually inconvenience the AP so much they will lose interest and switch to something else. At which point you'll be glad you held back.

Sorry to bring up an old but thought I might get an answer here.

Is there a standardised morning/evening break in civil service?

Friend works 35 hour week and must take a minimum of 30 minute lunch break.

    She moved departments last week

In the new place, she was told its 15 minute break in the morning and then take a minimum of 30 min lunch between 12.30 and 2.30 (off clock/unpaid).

To me, that sounds correct, but she was arguing the case it was always a 30-minute morning break in the previous department.

I'm guessing last place they gave a bit of leeway but officially it probably is 15 minutes .

I'm just curious to know,I presume there would be some circular.

She reckons shes getting hard done by 😂

No. It's normally 15 mins. Anything more your friend is taking the piss and should be pulled up on it.

It's 30 minutes anywhere I've been. Including Revenue, Department of Agriculture

Is it the same again in the afternoon. It should be around 15-20 minutes but no more. Anything beyond that is ridiculous and bad management.

In all cases it was a 30 minute break between 11-11.30, then lunch at standard times and no official afternoon break after lunch but I'd often take like 10 minutes and make a cup of tea.

But we always had our own workload to handle. It's not like me wasting time impacted anyone other than me.

its not a 30 min break. its 15 min. maybe 20 but 30 min,

i had this issue when a staff member transferred to my department and insisted on taking a 30 min break per her transfer terms and conditions. it went all the way to the unions and back again. she lost.

my other staff members thought, in fairness, it was terrible. as her 30 min break often ended up as 35 or even 40. taking the p*ss

I think officially it's 15 minutes but everywhere I've been people took 30 minutes, including management. No break in the afternoon.

Are you dealing with Clerical Officers? I went in at EO and am higher now. I've always just had my own workload and everyone else had theirs.

I've never once worried about how long of a break I've taken or if someone was watching the minutes.

Is there actually an official 15 min break at 11? Most in my area of dept don’t take any at 11 anyways. Didn’t realise there was an actual official break haha. I take a natural 10min one at that time anyways, last dept people took 15-30.

When it comes to the civil service you need to watch your back. There will always be hawks.
