Virgin Hub 5

Does anyone know if Virgin offers the Hub5 router yet in Ireland?

I just upgraded my broadband with Virgin from 500mb to 1gb - I asked for Hub5 and the lady in customer service was vague, saying she wasn't technical, but said I would be getting a black router "Arris" brand.

Googling it now, it looks like this is their standard 1gb router but not anything particularly sophisticated. I was hoping to be getting Wifi6 with the Hub 5. Anyone know?

I signed up with Virgin last August and it was the "Hub 2.0" black router with the white LED ring on the top. Piece of rubbish.

Interesting that on the Virgin Media web site they show an image of Hub 5. Odd that they don’t appear to offer it.

Nightmare!! 6 phone calls, 2 technician visits & a replacement box. Being on the 1gb package using hub4 since January and it's god awful the last 3 weeks. Demanded the new sagemcom hub5 & it's been booming away the last few days. Don't take no for an answer lads.

How did you manage that?? I really want Wifi 6 to take advantage of the 1gb broadband

In my opinion, you are better off investing in your own WiFi routers. Use the Virgin device as a modem only. Then you can move provider and keep all your WiFi devices (and settings!). In my own home, I use a couple of WiFi 6 mesh routers and have Virgin Media (the old white modem).

That’s a good point about being able to keep your Wi-Fi settings if you change providers. Not sure I want to have another box though…

Had a really terrible time with drop outs and just made all the devices in my home almost unusable & unwatchable. I'm fairly up on my tech and know my device wifi limits but the hub4 just wasn't delivering anywhere near the download speed I'd expect even wired devices. 30 mins after delivery and several checks all is now well. Virgin in the uk upgrade you to hub5 automatically when going up to 1gb. Also did speed test on Sam knows real speed and it's like a dream since

Edit. Old mobile device used just to show router speeds.
