Aluminium valve dust caps and how to prevent them getting stuck

Bought a set of aluminium valves 6 months ago and found out today they like to weld themselves to the valves.

Had to fork out 80 to replace all 4.

Wondering if there's a solution to this. I was thinking a couple of turns of PTFE tape (plumbing tape) so that the two dissimilar metals don't react and grease them beforehand.

Or are metal dust caps a lost cause?

Aluminium and salt water aren't a good mix - you get corrosion. In our climate with salted roads in winter you're always going to have an issue. I wouldn't put PTFE tape anywhere near a tyre valve due to risk of it causing a leak.

My recommendation would be silicon grease or molykote grease. We use it offshore on aluminium enclosure threads to stop them corroding. You'd need to renew annually.

im using those caps for years with no problems, put a dab of Vaseline inside the caps, i check my tyers once a week,so they never get a chance to corrode anyway

I've have been using them for years too with no problems but had a new tyre put on recently, i think he tighten the valve cap with pair of grips!, cannot get it to open, been like that while now haven't check tyre pressure in that tyre, suppose ill have to take it in for a new valve.
