Milk issues

Has anyone noticed that you need to put more milk into tea now to get the colour you usually want? Also, the milk is going off even before the use by date. This is happening a few months now.

No. Check the temperature of your fridge. Don't keep milk in the door of your fridge. Take milk from the back of the fridge in supermarket.

Milk is milk. 3.6% fat milk is taken from the cow, pasteurised, packaged and sold. Nothing else. The only difference at this time of year is that cows have been fed feed rations for the winter. Once grass starts growing properly, they will be out in the fields.

It's the lack of grass during Winter, amongst other things. Less fat in the milk when the cows are on meal than healthy grass.

Could it be the coffee has changed? I don't drink milk but its homogenized so would say its fairly consistent across the board.

I recently noticed with my pods that the amount of "bars" had reduced meaning there was less coffee in the pods - I was wondering why my coffee was lacking :)

Yes, I find milk has been going bad earlier, buy only supermarket own brands.

Bread also seems to be going mouldy earlier too. I gave up baking my own as its more expensive these days than buying a loaf but I might go back to it.

I've had the same with Lidl's full fat milk ... by a couple of days past.

As there is only two of us in the house and I shop once a week, I get 3x1 litres, rather than 2l or 3l cartons. The larger sizes did go off earlier than their best befores, but I put that down to the seal being opened for a longer time.

I think it depends on brand of milk. I usually go supermarket own brand but find if I end up with different milk from petrol station it does not last anywhere as long.

In a previous address (many years ago), I found that the local shop's milk was often not lasting near to the Best Before. I got kinda annoyed by it, so I asked the owner. They told me that their milk was delivered outside their door around 7am. They only took it into the fridge just before 9am when they opened up. When the weather was mild, the milk would go off earlier.

While we've had a cold snap the last few days, the weather has not been really that wintry for the last couple of months. So maybe there is a delay between the delivery to and it's storage by the retailer.

the "bars" represent strength of taste and have no bearing on the quantity of coffee in a pod (5g - 6g in a classic pod. Lungo pods are 6g). The scale is to do with the roasting of the beans and the bitterness.

On milk, whilst it is homogenised that just ensures current milk is all similar, but milk as a natural product does change depending on what the cows eat and with fields waterlogged and little grass growth it is very much fodder they are feeding on.

A few decent spring weeks and you'll have a higher fat and cream content.

I am finding the Aldi 2 litre milk is going off before the date. Even milk that is unopened is gone off. The fridge seems fine and other food is ok. It is cold. I wonder is it a local storage issue where milk is being left in the back but not a cold enough area.
