Can anyone advise on becoming married, registering, etc, the full paperworks, but not passing on documents to revenue/social welfare.... would this be classed as fraud or a personal choice?

Revenue really doesn’t matter, if you both earn over standard rate cut off point there’s no financial gain for you anyways. As for social welfare, I would say they are gone so strict if I were claiming something from them I’d just be honest, as they are quick as anything to deny your application.

Would revenue matter regarding private property and social housing entitlements???

Im wondering if marital status wasnt declared in the first instance with social welfare, and now currently separated, would they back date overpayments or false information on applications??

The General Register Office operates under the department of SW, and regular reports are received by scheme areas about births, marriages and deaths, based on ppsn match.

If a person decides not to tell the Department, they may find their claim selected for review.

It is the responsibility of a customer to advise the department of any changes that may affect a claim.

when you complete an application for a social welfare payment you answer questions about your circumstances.

As regards your relationship status there’s about 10 options.

If you say you ARENT living in a co dependent relationship with another adult (cohabiting is not treated any differently to married) but in reality you ARE, then it’s possible you’ve defrauded the taxpayer. You certainly haven’t been truthful.

If you weren’t cohabiting with a significant other when you applied for the payment but then after you were awarded the payment you subsequently started co habiting with a significant other then, for all the means tested payments, you were obliged to inform SW.

If you didn’t then it’s possible that you’ve defrauded the taxpayer.

If (by not declaring your correct maritial status) you (or your spouse) get additional social welfare payments, then it would/could be class a fraud.

If you lose out, they may or may not care. A "nice" civil servent might point out to you the entitlements you are missing.
