Gas heating and solar

Please help me understand. There is old gas boiler central heating, it also heats the water. But we have solar and it heats the water with excess. Does it mean if the water is already hot, there will be less gas used when the central heating is on?

Is your central heating separated into zones ? If so just don’t use the gas to heat the water.

Im the same as you. In my case the eddi heats the water where in the past we used the gas or electric immersion to heat water.

Im not zoned so the gas also heats the rads but I have noticed that my last gas bill was 180.00 less than it usually is.

My take on it is that we used to just put the gas heating on to have hot water (and the rads unfortunately) and now were only using it in the evening to heat the house but since the eddi has the water up to temperature already we`re saving anyway.

If I could zone it now I would as then Id be only using the gas to heat the radiators.And its on the list of upgrades to the heating system.

I don't think there are zones. It is very old
