I think we can criticize his time at RTÉ and get the feeling that he's probably not going to do very much.

    1. He was made MD of News and Current Affairs (Pretty much heir apparent)
    2. He was then given the title of Deputy DG (which hadn't existed for a number of years, and hasn't existed since he left)
    3. As soon as he didn't get DG he left RTÉ, why?
    4. He had 5/6 years on RTÉ executive board, he agreed to provided more money from the license fee to 2FM, he agreed to cut funding to children's content, he agreed to RTÉ strategies over that period.*

*Much this will criticism is with the DG of the day but the executive board members are there to run the company and advise.

I agree with what you say on DMcR, but I expect little from KB, but only time will tell.

It's a disastrous decision because nothing will change. I probably should have said "insider' rather than "lifer". He's RTE through and through. We know RTE-people aren't exactly bastions of change. RTE needs a complete shake-up, esp. commercially. It's not going to happen under the new DG.

I never once mentioned Redmond btw, so no need to comment on that.

The WST version is still available to anyone with an old Sky box and a SCART cable. Yeah not sure how many of those set ups are out there.

Look, I’m rather uncomfortable with this thread as it is (as with any thread that is discussing individuals who are not here to speak for themselves) and while I think it’s a matter of public interest who the DG of RTE is, it’s basically turned into yet another general RTE bashing thread and I think it’s time to call a halt.
