Gas Combi boiler - water testing

    Hi Folks,

Can anyone recommend what kind of water test would be required to determine whether mains water is suitable for a gas water heater or combi boiler? Is this something that is usually carried out? I suspect my mains supply is quite hard and am concerned about forking out for a boiler that will be clogged with limescale within a couple of years. Would it be normal practice to pre-filter the mains first?

    Thanks.
