Fire Alarm Studio Apartment

How should a fire/smoke alarm be installed in a studio apartment?

There's obviously cooking going on, generating both smoke and localised high temperatures so how can you retain fire & smoke detection without also getting loads of false alarms?

I assume that extract ventilation in the cooking area would mitigate the false alarm issue to some extent, but doesn't seem like it'd be massively effective.
