Family car suggestion - enormous deep boot a requirement

Hi all,

Not sure whether this should be going in the car or family forum :/.

Looking for advice on a vehicle with a huge boot. I think its better to have it deep than high. We have a newborn, and it has came to our attention that we cant fit our dog(big breed, poodle/old english cross) and stroller into the boot of our golf at the same time🤣🤣.

The stroller would be of a similar size to an I-Candy/Uppababy etc.. I've thought of an old E-Class estate, but I think its still too small to fit both in :/.

Herself wouldn't be big fans of MPV's like Ford galaxy etc..7 seater Renault traffics are frickin expensive also for what they are 😐️.

Any other suggestions other than getting a dog box to fit onto the hitch. I've thought about an old range rover as a run about, but anything for a low price has high millage.

But would I be right in saying range rovers/disco's boots are not deep, but very high.

Probably looking to spend about 30k. I thought used car prices would be starting to come down by now....

I cant seem to see anything myself with a deep boot. So at the moment, my thinking is a cheap small car for 2-4k just for the dog and take two cars when going with baby and dog. Eamonn Ryan would love us :D

I have the current V60 and looked at the V90, boots in either aren't as big as the superb.

My wife's octavia estate has a bigger boot than the V60 believe it or not.

Can’t beat a Skoda Superb Estate as suggested above for sheer ruggedness, and trouble free motoring. They’re well built and reliable.

Mondeo estate or even hatch have an enormous and wide boot, Skoda Superb and Octavias have big boots but they’re only 1 metre wide on the Superb with the side storage compartments so maybe not as good at doing what you need here.

I think thought should be out into the stroller too, some of them are stupidly big.

Hold up......I missed the part where you want to stick a dog in the boot. Any sort of saloon car is completely unsuitable for such purposes and completely inhumane. You want something with a hatchback style boot, an SUV or cross-over......Tuscon, Qashqai, Yeti.

The missus has a Tuscon and we can fit a big dog, buggy, shopping etc comfortably in the boot.

His best options have already been suggested and it's an estate. The boot on a Qashai is tiny and completely unsuitable, and as dogs get older they'll be happier to try climb into one rather than anything higher.

I assume you had your tongue buried deep in your cheek when said you were considering buying a second car to transport dog. I would never dream of putting a dog in my car purely for health, hygiene, smell etc reasons. Why not fit a tow bar on your car and get a tow bar mounted dog box, a good one with all lights etc costs approx €750.00 and will last years (that's the dog sorted 😊) Considering that you have a budget of €30K and need big boot for buggy etc. as others have suggested - check out the Skoda Superb or Audi A6 for extra comfort, safety & reliability.

Putting a dog into the boot of an estate, locking them in the dark and driving around like that is the mark of a scumbag. I don't care how big your boot is, it's cruel and inhumane. I'm sure there are people who do it all the time, that doesn't make it okay and anyone looking to transport a dog shouldn't be looking to lock them in the boot.

If I found out a family member was doing that I'd report them to the DSPCA.

The opel insignia boot is massive and I presume the estate is just huge.

They are a decent price and pretty frugal on the diesel Plus a lovely motorway driver.

The newer model has all the lovely tech and very comfortable but even the older ones are great if you can get an SRI model- will probably be a Vauxhall for the SRI.

Dunno how my family are still alive and healthy with all the dogs we've shared cars with over the years, maybe we're freakish outliers.

If you're sensible and have mats etc in the boot there's no issues whatever with smells and hygiene. Worse it'll get is the smell of wet dogs when you get in with them wet and that's gone once the dogs are gone.

It never crossed my mind that people would put dogs in the boot of saloon cars. I assumed that the dog would be in the back behind a mesh screen (so as not to interfere with the driver). Some of the dogs in my neighbourhood are pretty big - Alsatians, Huskeys, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Rough Collies etc. a little big for a standard boot😉
