We haven't had anything official but unofficially it's been pushed in our office that days in the office / WFH will affect future bonus and salaries.

What's the legalities about this? Can we ask for specific clarification?

It's a multi-national so sometimes they try to apply things without regard for local rules etc.

In the office, as opposed to doing what? You'd want to gave a few more specifics.

There are no legalities around it. Bonuses and salary reviews are at the discretion of the employer.

So long as they're not a proxy for age, gender, sex, etc - any of the nine grounds.

You can't be paid less cos you're young. You can be paid less cos you need to be provided with office space, or cos you hardly ever come on site, or live in Ballygobackwards.

It entirely depends on the culture and there is nothing you can do legally about it. Some companies and in particular US companies equate time spent in the office to begin productive and committed to the company and if you want to get on you are going to have to play the game or find a company with a culture the suits you better.

I’m retired now, but I spent the majority of my working live working for companies with a Germanic outlook. Here, if you are seen to spend too much time in the office the conclusion is that you must be incompetent as you can’t do your job within the time allotted or worse - your manager is incapable of leading his team. The result is that offices empty out pretty quickly at the end off the day.

People will play which ever game is needed to move on and up. All you can do is decide which game you want to play if you have the opportunity.

Umm first post, a negative WFH story.

Offering a financial incentive to come in to the office and be less productive. Sounds genius move. The flip side is saving money if people take a pay cut to work remotely. Of course it makes it easier to poach those staff to another company.

That could also be the plan
