Irish Pension in the Uk

I am retired in the UK and I am fortunate to also receive a State Pension from Ireland. Why am I fully taxed on my Irish Pension? This is money I paid into when I worked in Ireland! Why should HMRC tax me on this?

It’s income as far as revenue are concerned both here and in the UK. Why did you think that that income would be tax exempt?
