Hi there. I have applied for a few jobs with a local authority lately. Strong application, meet all the requirements, but i suspect thry will be sought-after positions, so may not even make it to interview stage. Nonetheless, they are on the back of my mind and would like hear one way or the other. Applications were in on their due dates of 19th Jan and 9th Feb.

Should I just forget about it? If they haven't replied now are they unlikely to?

Response time could be anything from minutes to months!

Absolutely don't forget about them, it's early days. But don't hold ya breath either.

@berrecka My experience was they acknowledged my application about three weeks after they got it, as I applied the week before christmas, so the holidays caused a delay there. It was then another 6 weeks before shortlisting was completed for interviews

Thanks guys. I did get an acknowledgement as soon as they were submitted. But it's nearly 5 weeks, with only a bank holiday to hold things up, not like the Christmas break.

Do they send PFOs if you haven't been shortlisted for interview, or do they just ignore you like they do in private sector? I have a feeling they have to advise either way, but could be wrong.

I'm thinking about contacting the person who acknowledged the application, just to see if invites to interview have been sent out

@berrecka They informed me that I hadn't been shortlisted anyway 😂. I'd imagine that would be common practice though

It really varies so i wouldn't lose hope at all. It often takes weeks to organize the interview board before interviews can take place.

To give you an example of how these things can take some time-Between doing the interview and being offered a role was 1 year for me in a previous council role.

Thanks eveyone, I actually have an interview for this tomorrow 🤞. Submitted application on 19th Jan, interview on 28th March. I didnt think I was in the running given how long it had taken to get a response.

Now to nerd up on what to expect in these competency based interviews....

How did you get on in the interview? I applied for the council the closing date was in Feb, I have heard nothing since. Did you have to do an apptitude test? Or was it just submitting an application form then interview?

Did they give you much notice for the interview? And was it online or in person?

Any luck with the interview? I've applied for a role in a local council 8 weeks ago and haven't heard anything back yet. I'm really dissalointed as it was my ideal role.

Hi there. I’m thinking about applying for a job at the co.co. I’m just wondering about the interview, are they a difficult interview? Also, my current job has a 3 month notice period, would the County Council wait for that length of time? (Application says co co will wait for 4 weeks)

Heya, I found the interview grand and I wouldn't have much experience with interviews. I can't remember what I was ask,

Hiw would you deal with a difficult customers and how do you deal with stress was 2 that I remember, I think they went off of the application form the questions on that ,that you had to write a piece about.

I'm not sure about the last question.

I got offered a position today after after 11 months

11 months is a long wait.

Congratulations and I hope it works out well for you.

Sometimes even after "getting" the job they put you on a panel for potential real jobs later. It can take forever.

If not employed I would look elsewhere for short to medium term even if picked for a panel.

    See

Often the job listing will be very clear on what they will ask about.

Thanks Dells35…Congrats on getting the job. I hope it all goes well.

My current job, I have a 3 month notice period and on the coco application , they say you must accept/decline offer within 4 weeks of the offer. I have applied for the job, I’ll cross that bridge when I have too.

Thank you. I'm sure if you got the offer and explained to them about your notice period it would be fine.

Hi dells35, I seen they are running another clerical officer position in Offaly this year, and I was tempted to apply for it, however I don't drive - is there travelling involved for this role?

    Hi

I applied for a county council job before Christmas closing date 19th Dec.

I have emailed three times since asking if the post has been filled and been told that the HR department is still at the eligibility stage with all applications but will be in touch with all applicants once finalised.

So I reckon they're still sifting through applicants.

My Last email was a month ago and still haven't heard and May is days away!
