Dealers have to book the same way as private individuals

Either way it'll fail on tyres and they'll need replacing. There's not so many dodgy cars nearing end of life to make that number of tyre failures and checking tyres takes all of three minutes.

Absolute farce and I see on the NCT site the message about how Gardai will take a pragmatic approach to people driving without NCT has now been removed - in its place there are stern warnings about how it is an offence to drive with an expired NCT. Also, when I when I booked the earliest available slot (4 months late) at my local centre, I got another warning telling me that this is after my expiry date and how earlier slots are available.. Which there are - over 100 km trip away. And for that, I'll get a slot which is 3 months late instead of 4 months.

I'm not ringing these arseholes looking to be put on a priority list. Although maybe I and everyone else should - if everyone is a priority, then no-one is a priority, what will the imbeciles do then.

People should be absolutely steaming over this nonsense and the gaslighting that NCTS are doing by blaming no shows. If people are being warned about how far ahead they've booked their test and an earlier slot becomes available, damn right they are going to cancel the later one. NCTS will then add that to their no show statistic and use it to try to justify the huge delays..

So is the free test automatic?

"According to the NCTS Customer Charter if you request an NCT appointment within 4 weeks and it cannot be provided, you are entitled to have the test carried out for free."

No one has got a free test since they reinstated it. I applied for a test just at the end of December, I'm not confident I'll get my test free

Not officially but maybe they'll let more through on rust etc

Official standards never really go backwards

Does anyone know here when applying for a test online the next available date is July. It does have the link for the priority list also. If applying through the priority list do you need to also have a regular booking or does the priority list cover that?

Just log in as soon at the clock strikes midnight. You will see all available cancellations that go on the system at that time everyday.

to get the free appointment you need to use the link on the website or give them a call.

They will get you an appointment within a month. I have done this so many times.

The free appointment does not apply to the regular booking which can now have a 6 month wait time.

There is a clear defined difference and this is why they are not paying out because until you ask them for an appointment within a month, you are not entitled to the free test because they WILL give you a test within the month.

An appointment was offered 7 days or more prior to the test due date

I rang just before the new year and only got an appointment 2 days ago for March, the appointment is 6 days before my NCT is due. Reading their customer charter its as clear as mud if I'm entitled to a free test. They sent me an appointment more than 7 days before the due date, but the test is 6 days before my NCT is due

That’s the crux, it’s not a blanket free test. It’s only free if certain parameters are met.

    1) it’s after your due date.

2)after calling you can only get a date 30 days later.

So if to you rang 3 months early, and wanted a test early it won’t be offered to you within the month if they are tight. It will be offered to someone whoes NCT will be out before yours.

which makes sense on a few levels
